I had an old Lyman .311 H & I sizing die that has been with me a LONG TIME.

It had been put in and out of the Lyman 45 so much that the O ring had been damaged and leaked lube badly with just minimum pressure on the lube sizer handle.

I knew it needed to be replaced. I used the search function on the forum and ended up with just about everything other than the correct size of the O Ring.

Sometimes the search function on this forum and I don't get along very well........

So , I took the torn O ring and my cleaned Lyman .311 H & I sizing die to my local Ace Hardware and asked for a new O ring.

The fellow looked at what I had , then looked through his O rings and handed me what he said was the correct O ring.

I put it on the die, it looked to be correct, but I wouldn't actually know until I got home and used it to see if the seal and fit were correct under hydraulic pressure ?

Well, I don't know if this is the correct size or not, but if you look at the 1st photo, you'll see how much lubed leaked from around the top of the die after sizing 300 ea., 30 cal. rifle bullets.

By the way at .47 cents each, I bought a half a dozen.

I just happend to win an auction for two RCBS sizer dies in .309 and .311 that I intend to run in my Lachmiller and one is missing the said O-ring. Will try my luck and see if the same size works for RCBS too.

Thanks for sharing :)

Factory is 9/16 x 11/16 x 1/16. But the 5/8 id will certainly work as you have found.

Specs call for 9/16" x 11/16" x 1/16". #35 at Home Depot. #1BUP1 at Grainger.

Last December I needed a few o-rings and was surprised when the guy at the local NAPA store just gave me 8 of them at no charge. Turned out he was a boolit caster also. I now have enough for a long time.

Definitely hard to narrow down the results. This link was posted here not long ago:

It is a customized Google search set up for this site by one of the members. My apologies to whomever did the work, but I have forgotten the user name. I've found it very useful so far....hope it helps.

I found the same ones at my local ACE store and they seem to work just fine, but make my own dies,
so I can make almost anything work :). I did use these though to keep a "standard"
