My thanks to all who have helped me, whether you know you did or not.
I restored a .38-55 Winchester this summer, that's what got me back into casting.
This morning I put a lee 250 gr boolit, pushed by 11 gr unique to 1300 fps, through a whitetail doe. I'm very satisfied, way more than if I'd used a modern bolt gun and j bullets at a buck apiece!
ps, it was still freezing and my phone did'nt want to take the pic, so it's a bit blurry.

That is seriously cool. I love the rifle and that doe will eat great and is a better "trophy" than a 180 class buck taken with a modern super magnum rifle. Congratulations.

Good shooting, Samwithacolt! congrats on the doe. Fresh venison is always good, even better when taken with your homecast ammo.

Good going!
Nothing like taking the old guns afield that generations before us carried in their hands, and did the same with.

Truer words never spoken Bill. I look at my old Winchesters and remember being out with my Dad and grandfather using them. Now its me, my sons, and grandsons.

Nothing like shooting an old rifle to make you appreciate the craftsmanship of generations gone by. Shooting buddy has a handful of century old Winchesters that all work flawlessly, some needed minor repairs or maintenance but they feel great, shoot even better. He's taking one hunting this year, will be using some boolits I cast.

How far was the shot and did she run far?

I hit the whitetail high and she dropped like a rock. I hit this guy(antlerless buck/kid) right in the "elbow" at 120 yds, and then in the head from about 40yds.
For next year I want a better aperture sight. The Lyman no 2 on there is sighted for 200 yds and the buckhorns for 100. I want a sliding aperture for use at all ranges.
This gun is so cool to use! Those big .38-55 shells, the feel of the gun, way nicer than carrying a scoped boltgun. I could have filled those two antlerless tags with my .243 or .308, but I am so proud(not that anyone cares but me!) to have used a gun from 1895, that I took from a keyholing, rusty single shot with a broken butt to a minute of deer wallhanger.
My thanks again to those here who advised me on both the gun and boolits.

Wow, good for you. I double wish I still had an old 38-40 model 1892 that at the time seemed better to let go.
