Been testing a few loads for my Browning Low Wall in 45 Colt and wondered if you guys could help me estimate how fast my loads are going. My barrel is 24" and my loads are:

1- 290gr Dry Creek SWC bullet and 10gr of Unique

2- 290gr Dry Creek SWC bullet and 16gr of 2400

Remington large pistol primers in both.

Thank you.

Sight it in say 50 or 100 yrds
Go back 150 -200- 300yrds and shoot at the bullseye and record how low it shoots.

Enter your B.C. and sight in range in to ballistic program and by playing with the velocity you can figure out how fast you are.
That's how I been doing it for years.

Or find some one with a chronograph and shoot a few over one.

Depends on you barrel chamber conditions a bit if you will ever see published velocity data

But they'll be all close.

Hope it helps

A chronograph, a spotting scope and a hardness tester are three of the best investments in shooting equipment I've made over the years. Don't need any of them but between the three of them they've eliminated a massive amount of guesswork, good thing because I'm a terrible guesser. That said, my guess is 1100 fps for each load.
