............In case anyone is interested Gun Parts Corp has Apex "Match" (their word) .458" barrels, 25" long. Says blanks, but shows a contoured barrel. $125

And:

These are brand new unissued barrels manufactured in Norway at the Kongsberg facility. The Norwegian army used select 98K actions and built special target rifles for marksmanship purposes using these barrels. Parkerized steel, 27 5/8" long, 4-groove rifling. Measures .945" OD just ahead of thread ring, tapers to .755" OD, then steps down to .590" OD at muzzle. Globe style target front sight not available.

$129

Humm.... Back in the 60's Flaig's used to sell their store brand of barrels called Apex. Rumor had it they were Douglas barrels. I built up a 270 on a 1917 Enfield with one and it was a good barrel. I wonder is this is some left over supply GunParts picked up?

About the same time there was also an Apex Rifle Company, which was a custom shop run by a guy by the name of Sam May. I disremember if they made barrels or not.

Would be nice to know the twist of those .308 barrels. Are you getting one?

............Naw. I might have though, but I'd already bought a new made military stepped barrel in 8x57 from Brownells for a M24 I have. I dithered between that and one in 308, and originality won out.

I thought those prices weren't too bad, but they're a little dear just to buy a couple to stash away (like those $28 small ring 30-'06 bbls they had :-)).

If I remember correctly, those Apex barrels were used on a lot of competition revolvers. There were a lot of S & W revolvers that had Apex target barrels and Bowman rib sights that they used for competition. Very good barrels. I had a S & W mdl 29 6 1/2" bbl fixed up that way that I got in a trade for a stereo system. Great shooting gun, but heavy.

Buckshot,
What were those small ring barrels originally for that they sold a year or so ago?
I remember them being discussed and don't remember what they were originally for.
Thanks.
