Hi all, I am now at the stage where I am shopping for boolit lube. It will be used in the lubrasizer with a heated base. The lube will be for 45acp / 38/357 / and 30-30. Is there one commercial stick lube better than the rest for this application. I use the 45 in competition IPSC classic division so idealy should be low smoke and good for rapid fire. 357 from a lever action and revolver if that matters.

Also - how many boolits will one stick of lube generally do? The 45 has one lube groove and the 357 has 2 lube groves. Thanks guys.

Have you ruled out making a batch of Ben's Red?
There are a number of threads on the forum about it.

I used to make my own lube, but I can buy it from Lars for about the same price as the materials.

I can't say enough good things about his BAC!

Thanks for the fast reply's! dbosman I haven't ruled anything out yet but being a total newbie I just thought it's one less thing I need to figure out:smile:

454PB I was wondering if you have experience with lbt blue or soft blue compared to BAC? It is a lube that makes some strong claims on their website but is 3.50 per stick so double the price of BAC.

Can you spell "Lyman" 50/50 or Orange magic.

I use the 50/50 have for 50 years and it has NEVER failed me.

I also use 50/50 in all my .45 ACP and .38 Spl (even .357 Mag with a 358156) and like William above, it's never failed me. Yeah sure it's a little sticky but a dusting of talc takes care of that (if it bothers you).

I'm a FWFL loob guy. It's that good.

Lately, I've been playing around with Ben's Red, too. Also good stuff, but I'm not yet changin' things that have worked well with FWFL - because it's that good.

45-45-10 is pretty good, too, dipped, ala Ranch Dog. Two coats with maybe a pass thru a Lee sizer in between.

My favorite hard loob with a heater for a long time has been Orange Magic. Too pricey anymore though.

I suppose one of these days I should try LARS stuff, so I'll get 'roundtoit one of these days.

I've also used 50/50 Sta-Lube (yeah that stinky, black stuff) and Beeswax. Good on 45 acp/AR, but smokey and stinky.

Pick your poison!

Heated luber-sizer then I'd go with White Label Carnuba Red. Somewhere around 1000 boolits in .401 (40 S&W) and low to no smoke, no leading, and even a little lube on targets at 15 yards, occasionally.

I haven't used the LBT lubes, but I've heard good things about them. For 35 years I made my own.....mostly 50/50 beeswax and Alox. Once Alox became harder to find, I started using Lars BAC and I'm happy with it. I buy 15 sticks at a time to maximize the shipping cost ratio.

The only thing I don't like about Orange Magic is the price. Bought some Speed Green and it's okay, but so far I prefer the Magic. Will try Lars when I run out of the Green.

shopping for means not making it , bummer that as fwwfl is a fav of mine
you cant beat lar's and randy rat's prices - that alone is a strong consideration !! i too have to give nod's to carnuba red and tac1 !!!
most commercial lubes will work well for the lower velocity/pressure stuff ( eg; every round you listed ) so ....

as for how many boolits will a stick of lube lube ... there is no easy answer , how big are each groove in capacity ? the math starts to get not worth it , best bet is to buy in bulk and lars and randy sells in bulk ( and that lubes a whole lot of projectiles !!! )

Yea, I go with Lars at White Label Lube use BAC and Carnuba Red and both work great! The Carnuba Red is stiffer and needs heat but not a problem for you. Lars ships fast, and gets the orders right! Great product and service from a mom and pop operation. Tim

+1 for White Label Lube. Carnauba Red or BAC.
First class lube, first class service!

BAC is a little to soft for the summer heat where I live. So I use 2500+.

White label is as good as anything out there at a friendly price too.

I used to make my own mainly Felix's, a most excellent lube, but don't bother now that White Label is available.

Pick the lube for your application and away you go.

White Label do 45/45/10 if you need to tumble lube.

+1 on TAC1 and Randy is awesome to work with. It works great in my Lyman 4500. I plug the heater in for 5 min and its good to go for that session.
