It seems most of my cast shooting these days is 38 sp, 357, 45acp and 45 colt with loads in the 800-1100 fps range. In the past I had a good supply and supplier of coww's, but that dried up long ago. I still have some left but would like to extend my supply as I have an in on some pretty much pure lead.

I was thinking of going 40% coww, 40% pure and 20% range scrap, or 40% coww, 60% pure. Does this seem like a reasonable alloy for my uses?

Download the spreadsheet on this site and set the mixes for what you need. A valuable tool!

Where do we look for this spreadsheet?
How about a link.
Does it really exist?

I use 50 % COWW to 50% Pure then add an add'l 2 % tin to my mix: Use it for all my cast boolits in handguns

That is what the search engine on this site is for. One of the main things I learned in college is not to remember everything I need, but to remember where to go to get it when I DO need it.

"inquiring minds want to know......but need to look first B4 asking."

Good luck using it. I use it several times a week and it is really a nice tool.

Thanks again to bumpo628!!!!!!!!!!

That spreadsheet has been around for quite a while and is mentioned in numerous threads. I have used it only a few times but know right where to find it.

IF you water drop your boolets from the mould into a 5 gal bucket of water. a mix of 50% lead and 50% coww will give you a BHN of around 15 bhn hardness or the same as lyman#2 alloy. as long as your mould will cast boolets large enough for your purpose with that alloy. it should work fine.

Alternately: If you do not water drop just air cool ( and add some extra tin about 2 % to your mix) you get about Bhn 10.5 ...Fills the moulds out nicely ...That's what I like to shoot in all my pistols Revolvers & semi's I have had good luck up to 1300 fps

+2 on the 50/50 + 2% tin. Excellent results in .44 mag with no leading.
