Bad news is that I used Holly's Outback. Looks like a total, doe ran in front of me @ 75 mph 1/2 hr before sunup on the interstate. Grilled her then pushed her along the side so bumper, left fender, hood and both left doors and rear quarter panel are dented. The driver door doesn't open from outside and the radiator leaks. i can still count to ten on my fingers and toes and no aches so life is fine.

Glad you're OK. Considering where I've lived and as much pre dawn driving on rural highways I've done, it's a miracle it hasn't happened to me yet.

Sorry to hear that. The little buggers sure come out fast don't they. I've hit two and my wife has hit one which totaled the car she was driving but didn't hurt her. Glad to see that you are ok. Those deer always scared me when I used to have a bike.

I hope you carted that sucker home, that way you can get some sort of revenge...

With what body work costs, that venison probably comes out to about $100 a pound. Savor every bite!

I hit a Texas whitetail on a bike before daylight. I was lucky as it was strtched out when it came out of the trees, and went under my headlight, but over the fender and the forks broke it's back. Very minimal damage to the bike, and I was only a couple miles from the house, so I went back and got the pickup to take it home and dispose of it properly.

Yep. If road "sand" will pass through a 3/4" screen, it's good to go!

Glad you're OK!

Yup on Subarus being deer magnets. Years ago while I lived at Hauser Dam I was driving home one night in our Subaru station wagon. The dirt road parallels the lake shore for about a mile, and a big doe came roaring up from the lake's edge and ran squarely into the passenger door. Since she had come up from the low right, I didn't even know what had happened......just a very loud bang.....and a big old dent in the door.

The funniest thing I have seen between an auto and a deer was when I was in my blazer coming back from a long weekend in the mountains. This blazer is street legal (barely) but mainly an off road rig. It has no doors or top on it and a big mule deer buck came running from the passenger side. It looked for all the world it was coming right in the door opening where my son in law was sitting, minding his own business. lol It hit the front door post then swung around hitting right behind the door. The look on my SIL's face and the noise he muttered while he was vacating the seat was priceless, and I was laughing so hard I had to pull over because I couldn't see to continue. lol

I got one about 6 years back firing a Toyota Tercel down the hammer lane, loaded with a 180# driver, seated in front of 10 Gal regular, coffee primed, @ 88 FPs.

Literally knocked the **** out of him, picked impacted fecal matter out of what was left of the plastic grill, and scraped some loose stuff out of my pants too !

Didn't do the car or him any good either, took his life, my hood, left fender, grill ,head light, but didn't get the radiator.

That's the hard way of getting your deer! sorry to hear about that. Most of the time if they do that much damage to your car or truck, they are pretty mashed up, too. I hit one with my pickup back in '96, took out the grill, damaged the radiator and the panel the radiator mount to, and bent the front fender. However, the lights and the hood were intact. My daughter hit one with her Saturn, $2500 worth of damage, and my son hit a buck on the way to work. The ins. co. totaled his Malibu, as both air bags went off. Yet he could drive the car without any problems.

Our deer here are tough on cars, and occupants of them. I don't know how to post a picture, but those in this link, of the beige car that should be second thru third used to be posted in some of the canadian scalehouses.

IIRC the lady that was driving cameout with just a broken arm. It ws her unlucky and lucky day at the same time.

I worked 4-mids at the casino, in the 6 years I was there I took out 12 deer. I had a huge welded up bumper on the front of a full size 4wd ford van. Worst damage I had was hooking a bucks antlers in the mirror bracket on the passenger door and ripping the mirror off. Broke the bucks neck with no meat damage.

Deer strikes super bad in Ne, Ka, and Ia. during rut. Probably the same in all states.

'Tis the season, keep a sharp eye out @ dusk & dawn. Got my first last year...with a new car. Old car had done just fine on that road for years. A few months later (paint nicely cured!) I smacked a big coyote/feral dog. I like my new car but it makes me nervous.

I got my first drivehunt deer last month. Was east bound on hywy98 out of destin Florida when a big for this area doe walks out of the tall grass right in front of my old Chevy truck. Splattered deer all over my truck grill, hood, cab and the poor townie that was following way too close behind me in one of those prius snob cars. Damage to truck a few more dents, one headlight and a preasure cleaning to get the dried mess off before the fireants dragged it away. The young fellow that was following to close had deer blood all over the front of his car and puke all over the front seat. Must have been a sight when his windsheild splashed with blood. I drive a 1965 beater chevrolet c10. So I didn't have any mechanical damage because they built them with real steel back then.

I left the deer lying on the side of the road. I have far too many opportunities to get good eating one.

We don't have deer here, but it is a big no no to salvage a moose hit by a vehicle. There are outfits that they call to salvage the meat, and it goes to the needy. I don't totally understand the law, but I do know they will prosecute you even if you salvage road kill up on the haul road way farther than what somebody would drive just to salvage it.

in Michigan, if you hit a deer with your car, you have to call the state police, sheriff's or whoever has jurisdiction over that area. They'll write a report for your insurance company. If the deer is dead, the leo will give you a permit that allows you to take the deer. Now, if you hit a turkey and report it to the police, the DNR will come out and take the bird. They will not let you keep it. Go figure. Also, if you find a roadkilled deer and report it to the police, they will probably give you the permit so you can keep it.

i watched a guy try to clean a fresh roadill deer. Probably weighed 120 pounds, he may have gotten 5 pounds of usable meat the rest was blood shot and bruised. what ever killed it run clean over it.

I will take a moment of silence to honor the venison that was left to waste.

I am on the sheriffs call list if they have a surplus deer. Can't hunt anymore so I get one that way every year or so.

Glad you are uninjured. In Montana - if its not deer, Its rocks an busted winshields

In Northern Alberta if you can drive for a week with a new windshield and no rock chips you have beat the odds.
I have at least 6 rock chips from meeting the highway sand trucks - I also carry at least 2 rock chip repair kits at all times.
My pickup is 2 years old and the windshield looks like it has been sand blasted.

As for deer, the body shops here are backed up for at least a month on wildlife collisions.
My daughter in law discovered that a coyote can do $5000.00 damage to a Dodge Journey. It took the body shop a month to get it back on the road.
