It's a .50 caliber Marathon caplock which I picked up at a pawn shop for $50.00 as a plain jane. It's still a $50.00 gun but it looks a lot better.

It looks like the barrel has been sortened by a good 8 inches and the butt was cut flat by bubba, he turned it into a carbine. Here's what it looked like when I picked it up. The patch box was really trashed and it would of cost more to restock it than the gun was worth.

I had to make new wedge plates out of some flat stock that was laying around. Since the poor thing was already rough I decided to turn it into a indian style trade rifle with the sling, black dangles and copper tacks.
Best I can figure out it was made in Spain in the late 70's by Marathon gun but I haven't been able to find out anything else. The barrel is stamped "Marathon Gun Co., Black Powder Only, .50 Caliber" and "made in Spain" along with it's serial number and "Reproduction Firearm" It shoots fine but haven't been out to a range yet. The short barrel is going to be a real blast with 60 grains of FF. Glad I'm not in New Jersey, would have to plug two of the holes in my speed loader to make it legal.

Have you checked the twist in it. I'm also curious how that short barrel does. My scout has a 20 in barrel but is a fast twisted little dude.
