I would like to load 30-30 reduced loads . I am looking for a subsonic load with a 230 gn cast bullet. Anybody got one or can give a place to start ?
Thanks

With the little bit of information you provide I can't do a hole lot for you. 6.5 grs of Unique should get you around 1043 fps for a subsonic load at around 20010 psi. 8.5 grs of 2400 would do about the same.

Sorry to disappoint you, but a .30-30 with 12" twist isn't going to stabilize a 230-grain bulet subsonic. A 10" twist will, but only if it is a blunt-shaped bullet like #311284.

I use a 311041PB with 7.0-7.2 grains of Unique for about 1200 fps with a 28" barrel.

Where did you find a 311041 Plain Base? I've been looking for one of those.

You take it to a machine shop or send it to the mold maker that modifies them (can't remember the name, others will pipe in, I'm sure) and have them ream it to .3115 (.001 undersize dowl pin reamer) and that will get a .310 base band or ream 5/16 for .311. I do that all the time as, I only shoot PB bullets. I'm a machinist and can also do it for you.

I agree on the long boolit. My Husky .30-30 showed very maginal stability with a 205gr spire cast boolit.

How interesting about the Husqvarna Model 35, I had never heard about them. I found your thread here:
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?172364-Husqvarna-single-shot-is-here!!
The Husqvarna Model 35 was produced from 1912-1942, Cylinder action single shot rifle (Mauser M1871), details here:

I love the 30-30, have a pre-64 Win 1894 and a Savage 340 in 30-30.

Was the 30-30 (7.62x68mm European designation) very popular with other European manufacturers do you know?

uh.... a 30-30 is about 51.8mm (2.039)... a 68mm case length is about 2.677 which is longer than a 270Win...

are you sure about the Euro designation?

We had a Lee Group buy here a few years ago is where I got mine. The mold is a good one and casts a big pile faster than I can shoot them.

Quite correct - 30-30 is the 7.62x51R for the European designation.

Chapuis makes a double rifle in 30-30 and there are various combinations such as made by Sauer, are there any other bolt guns in 30-30?

Savage made their Model 219 break action single shot and MOdel 170 pump, the pump apparently having feeding difficulties from the 3-shot tube magazine.
THere is the Winchester model 54 in 30-30, I am sure I will not be able to afford one of those if I find one.

My 1:12 twist 30-03 will stabilize the lee 180 rn just. 170's or 150 no worries.

I use @3.8 gns bulleye with 150's 4.2gns for 170's if you started a 5gns bulleye and worked down with a heavy you may be all right.
I use a Dacron filler as well.

As you go lower they will be a point where it goes to pieces on you. Subsonic or not.

Maybe a luverin type bullet may work all groove and no nose.
Good plinker out to 300yrds or so and they don't blow around as much as one would think.

Try about 6gr of unique with a 200+ gr boolit. Very quiet, might not stabalize though.
