I've got a great set of BT dies but need a die set that has a shorter nose. The nose length isn't what I want anymore as the bullet is .100 longer than a standard 175gr bullet.
So is anyone making a shorter nose profile swaging die?

Thanks Warf

can't you just trim the case before you swage it to make the bullet OAL smaller? and, to make a shorter nose don't push the seated core up into the point forming die as high... just thinking out loud to help you out... :)

Was this one of my custom dies or one of my improved CH-4d dies?

If you make your bullets using 9mm jackets you still have a rim on the bullet. You can mount that bullet in a case trimmer and trim the nose back as far as you like, actually makes very good results and repeatable. I got a pic of this process I'll post shortly.

Or I can bore out any of the dies to a larger meplat that will give you a shorter nose but just making a bullet with a shorter nose doesn't decrease the total length of these pistol bullets that much. To make a shorter bullet you have to make a lighter bullet with a shorter jacket when using the 9mm. Simply because of the thick web of the case that becomes the base of the formed bullet. It is about that .1 thicker that you speak of then factory jackets and bullets made from them of the same weight.

As for who makes the dies, Ch no longer does, there is the three others you can check with, Corbins and Blackmon, after that?

There the first run that you made, CH-4D die body with imporoved guts. My bullets have been trimmed to .380acp length and are still .100 longer than a reg. 175gr bullet. My 165gr bullets are almost .075 longer than a reg 165gr bullet. Bullet nose is to long its needs to be swattier, which is what I'm after.

Here was the look of the standard CH die 40 cal bullet with the .250 meplat on the left and the same bullet after I trimmed it in the case trimmer

To get you a shorter bullet we can bore the meplat of your CH die up from .250 to .281, that will shorten the nose. This is a recommended improvement I have offered now for a while. It brings the length of the nose back to what a 40S&W bullet should be.

Next to shorten the overall length of your bullet you need a smaller hollow point punch or even a flat nose punch.

Both these options are easy modifications I can offer you to your existing die.

Thats what I'm after Brian, not sure if I would need smaller hollow point punt as I have a shallow, deep(hollow point) and flat nose punches with the orignal die set.

Here you go warf,

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?142835-BTSniper-40-cal-factory-tune-up-offer!

$50 for those first few customers that got my first 10 or so 40 cal dies I offer a much improved upgrade to your die.

I bore the nose out to .281, replace the base punch, replace the 3 internal HP punches with 1 new .281 punch since the .250 diameter will no longer work in the new .281 nose, replace the top stop bolt.

You will be able to make shorter bullets with shorter nose lengths that are much better for shooting in the 40 S&W.

I'll be happy to make these upgrades to your die.

Simply send me everything you have with $50 and I'll send it back to you with all new components and upgrades. Keep in mind that I'll only be sending you back one nose punch rather then the three originals, if you want additional nose punches for different size hollow points or a flat point I'll be happy to offer you anything you wish.

The thick base of the brass jacket will still make for slightly longer bullets then factory bullets of same weight but this up grade makes for a much improved bullet vs. the original version.

Send me a PM for shipping details.

Thanks

Brian
