Yes, I realize that Brownells has them. Probably Midway as well.
However it's come to my attention that they can be had at a price I can afford from #?#?#?.
At first I thought it was Harbor Freight. We, here in North-Central Maine have never had access to the wonder of Harbor Freight, until NOW. I spent an hour trying to find them last Sat. Although the Employees were wonderful in there efforts, they were still learning the stock. No luck. So this PM I plundered the I-Net. Harbor Freight does NOT have them.

Soooo-Where did they come from?

All sugestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Pepe Ray

I'm not sure what tool suppliers that you have in Maine, but most of the larger houses like Bass tool, Wholesale tool, Macmaster Carr have online stores as well. Just serach Machine tool and supplies online and you will find them. The trick is locating someone who carries a single set of pin gauges that will cover the sizes you want and not have a whole bunch of the little bitty sizes you don't need.

Bought mine on Ebay. Cheap because the set was missing a few. I took a chance that the missing gauges would not be needed(the missing ones were not listed) and was lucky.

I forget the details, but look for a "minus" set. The machinists here can tell you why.

Most tool supply places have them and they can be mailed. I have a set of starrets that are tracable to National standards. They can be purchased +- and 0. A minus set allows for a light press or no clearnce fit, + allows more clearence for a precission slip fit, 0 mkaes a very snug fit.The tool room I worked in had all three. Mine is a smaller set but it does everything I want it to. Unfortunatly unlike gage blocks they cant be stacked for a given size (IE .100 and .150 block wrung together equals .250). Gage pins can be purchased in individual sizes by the thousandth increment from tool supply shops but may have to be ordered in. On some sets it dosnt take to many individuals to make the set either..428-432 is five diffrent pins.
I can do alsmost as good with a set of small hole gages or telescope gages and my michrometers, unless it needs super precission.

Enco Tools has them, this is where I got mine. Be sure to get the minus set. This means
that they are actually .0002" smaller than the marked dimension. So they will go into a
hole that is the size marked on the pin.

I recently bought a minus set of 250 pins from MSC for $85 plus shipping. They go on sale periodically.

Enco (use-enco.com) has the import set on sale for $79 plus shipping right now. $67.15 with the 15% off orders >$149.
Their shipping is pretty reasonable too. Was $16.95 with a couple of other small items when I priced it.

The ebay listing for $69.99+$21shipping is probably the same thing.

I've been looking for a set too, and am torn between getting a used set off of ebay or a new chinese set.

Yeah, you can buy them seprately, we use seperate ones a lot for one-off gaugeing fixtures and such (where you wouldn't want to yank one out of a set).

I just checked the listings on Ebay for pin gages. Things have really changed since I bought my set. Even incomplete sets are going for up to 3 times what I paid for mine. I think that an import set from Enco or MSC would be a better buy.

I just used my set to find out what the neck size is on a set of dies that I am modifying for cast bullet shooting. Lots of uses for them like finding out what size your case mouth is after sizing/expanding for example.
