Help me please. I need to load some 147 9mm idpa loads with either Bullseye or X700 for idpa. I haven't been able to find any recipes so i'm reaching out for help.

Please let me know what has been working for you.

Thanks,

Brian

Are you asking about 147gr "J word" loads for your IDPA events?

147 gr bullets in a 9mm were originally used for suppressed sub-machine guns. I would recommend that you stick with the standard 115 gr to 124 gr pistol loads. But if you insist, "Modern Reloading" by Richard Lee has Bullseye loads for the 147 XTP, but nothing for cast. Do you mean 700x? They list that, too.

Haha, J word, yes and no. For indoor IDPA shoots I lead is forbidden, so I purchased some platted, which from a load perspective load like cast. For outside cast is fine. This is my first attempt at loading 147 and the only two powders I have are Bullseye and 700-X. I cast 230 and 124, but I have not use either powder so I need some help.

Hmmm... I looked through the manuals I have and they don't list BE with the 147gr bullets. I load and shoot a fair number of 9mm with BE but I use 124gr.
Sorry I couldn't help - I gotta believe some one on this forum has used plated 147s before - let's hope they see this thread.

Thanks everyone!
Looks like if I load 147 with 3.1 - 3.2 g of BE with a COL/OAL of 1.13 I should hit +875 and give me a power factor of approx 128-129.

Let us know what you end up with - would be good data to add to the list.

Will do, I am going to try and sneak out at lunch and test a few.

Results are in, and .... 3.1 - 3.2 grains of Bullseye is not enough. I would cycle the slide and lock the slide back, but the cases were not extracting well. On extraction the case out come out on the right side and hit me in the chest and stomach. My feeling is that they would not make the power factor and would be cheating.
I am going to increase the charge to 3.6 and load 15 rounds and see what we get, but I'm thinking that 4.0 or so would be a sweet spot.

On a side note, UPS man just dropped me off a Lee 6-Cavity Bullet Mold TL356-124-2R, cannot wait to fire up the pot this weekend.

Now your talking - the Lee 124 will make life a bit easier - though you may not be able to use them indoors - 4.0grs of BE with the 124 works both in my Glock (And I don't want to hear anybody whining about cast in Glocks with factory barrels) and my wife's CZ. I've had success with as little as 3.8gr of BE in both guns.
Good info on the 3.1-3.2 not enough to cycle - what boolit launcher are you using them in?

Boolit launcher yesterday was a Glock 34 factory barrel.

UPDATE:
I bumped the powder drop to 3.8 and 4.0, felt like a factory plus load. I think that 3.4/5 might be the sweet spot. I shot the rest of the initial 3.1 loads and while they would not make the PF for idpa, they were great shooting. I was super accurate with the lighter loads.
I also loaded some 124 sized to .356 from COWW and water dropped with loaded with BE 3.9/4.0 and they felt a little HOT, going to take it down a notch.

On a side note launched approx 250 124 LRN greased with LLA from the glock 34 and ZERO leading. Glad the Wolf barrel was back ordered, because I don't think I'll need it. :)

I found in the 49th edition of the Lyman handbook a listing for Bullseye with 147 grainers.
They publish the starting load for J-words at 3.5gr and a max of 4.1 gr.
The published starting load for boolits (#2 alloy) is 2.8gr and a max of 3.5gr.
Seems like your on the right path - keep us posted.

On the Glock note - my 19 has shot a "gob" (that's a technical term for more then a bunch) of cast bullets with the factory barrel and I've never had a problem :)
