I went last night to get my 45-70 Cowboy, which is really neat, and as I figured I wouldn't be, I wasn't very fiscally responsible while there. I put a .357 mag Cowboy on lay a way. What kind of accuracy are you guys getting out of your .357 levers? The guy had 2, one had pretty wood, the other had very plain. The plain one had alot better fit and finish, so I went with that one, as it's going to be a shooter anyways. I wanted the .45 Colt one he had, but that one wasn't too good in the wood fit department either. It was a 20", and I would really like one of the 24" ones they made. Thanks.

I obtained an older 1894 earlier this year. So far I have found a nice bunny load, 2.7 gr of Bullseye under a 148 gn wadcutter. 5 shots touching at 20 yards. However these have to be hand fed. I'm hoping to work up a good, accurate load this weekend with the 358429 for more power and range.

Love this gun!!!

I have a scope on the 1894 that I'm keeping 'cause nearly anything that comes out of the barrel does real well . It just sorta makes one ragged hole y'know ? :-D

Congrats on both. I have to stay away from those lately and that's not easy, those Cowboys look good.... [smilie=1:

And for what it is worth, these .357 Levers are really a pretty good thing. That round gains a whole lot of power out of the rifle barrel, factory ammo is cheaper than many other rounds, and handloads are much cheaper too.. Accuracy should be excellent.

And, ummm, there are worse ways to spend money ya know. Some folks might even go so far as to say that ya done good by investing in Marlin Levers...

:Fire:

PS: My W brand .357's put my 3/4 power 158 gr handloads into 2" groups (16" M94, Williams 5D and standing, out to 25 yards; and a 20" M92 same load with stock buckhorns out to 50 yds when benched). I know other folks do better, but this keeps me happy. Your Marlin should do well.

Thanks guys, it will probably be a while until the .357 is paid off. I figured it would be a cheap, and hopefull very accurate gun to play with.

My 357CB has shot half inch 3 shot groups at 50 yards at times but inch and a half is about average if I don't go thru a bunch of handloading tricks to get optimum accuracy.H-110 has been my go to powder in anything 357 and does well with 180 boolits and 180 xtp's in my CB.Was thinking about hunting deer with it but my 454 F/A is shooting inch and a half groups with 240XTP mag's at 50 yards today and got me back to liking revolvers again. You will like that levergun in 357.No recoil and lots of fun shooting fast and bouncing pop cans.
