First slug the barrel. I have an MN 91/30 with a .313 barrel that the Lee C312-185-1R performs well in with Alliant 2400. The M44 carbine has a slightly larger diameter barrel and shoots accurately with a Lyman 314299 and ACC 5744 powder. Lyman fourth edition Cast bullet Handbook is helpful. Lots of other posts on the Military rifle and Surplus rifle parts of the forum as far as molds and powder for Mosin Nagants.

Yup slug the barrel or you may as well be wasting time and money.
Then check the military section for lots of good info. There is a good general article by c.e, harris that has some of his pet loads. Good luck. It's just as fun as casting for pistols if not even more enjoyable :-)
