I have a couple of bars of solder .
One is marked National Lead Co. 888.
The other is marked KS&S Co. Special Wiping Solder.
Anyone know the tin content / alloy of these ?
Thanks

If you have a way of testing the hardness this link may help:

Wiping solder is typically 38-62 or 40-60. The other bar, I can't help.

I agree with both posts. Wiping solder was use on car bodies it was high Lead and low Tin. As in 38-40% Tin.
No idea on the 888 bar.

Wiping solder was also used on telephone and power cable lead splices. The stuff we use on lead power cables is 40/60. Anything higher than 40% tin was generally not used as it was brittle.
