Just found this ad on Cragslist.

"LEAD BARS--NATIONAL LEAD 1.5 LB --40/60 LEAD & TIN BARS--TOTAL OF 59 BARS FOR SALE---WILL SELL SEPERATE OR ALL---MAKE OFFER"

What would be a fair offer for these? For each and all.

Thanks.

David

1 dollor a pound. Junk yard here only pays .45$ for lead so he is doing better then scrapping it

tin is going for much more than that.
i'd offer money for the tin content.

That is around 24 pounds of tin which retails for about $400.00 plus. I would offer $100.00 and have a max of around $250.00. I would want to get all of it at the right price. Sellers here are asking around $5.00 plus a pound for something like that. That would be a good supply of tin to lay-up or resell.

I buy solder at $0.80/lb at the yard whenever I find it. You can buy pewter on here for just under $10/lb delivered. I would want to pay no more than $2/lb for 40/60 solder in bulk.

Like others I'd only buy it for the tin.
Virgin tin from Rotometals is about $18/lb.
I'd be happy paying $4/lb for that solder, giving me under $8 tin and not cheating the guy based on his innocent ignorance.

I called up and talked with the seller. Turns out he is trimming down his bullet casting and is selling off surplus supplies. He knows what he has and was pleased that it was going to another caster.

I offered $2 per bar and he happily accepted. He also has 30+ lbs of lead wool that he'll toss in for $1/pound. I think that's a little high for pure lead, but it balances out the good deal on the bars.

I'll post pictures after I pick them up.

I get lead wool at $0.80/lb but you can't beat those bars for $2 each. Great buy in total.

Here's the final tally. He had a few more bars that he thought. Totaled out to 66 bars at $2.00 each. Approximately 32 lbs of lead wool at $1.00 per pound.

66 x $2 = $132

32 x $1 = $32

$132 + $32 = $164

He let me have it all for $160.00 cash. We also chatted for a few minutes. Nice guy who has seen some fine firearms pass through his collection. When he digs out his molds and if he decides to get rid of any, he said he'll give me a call. Here are some pictures of my score.
