Looking for a 200-210 gr. mold for a .308. Any one out there with on of Tom's molds?

I have a couple of his molds.
many of his stock designs are very good as is they have been developed around certain calibers.
if you would consider a different weight i'd recommend this one to anybody with a 308.

I fidgeted about with my alloy and mold temp enough to scrape my 310 sizer while applying the gas check, and to get the nose to lightly engrave the rifling.
it is worth the little extra effort.

this boolit shoots well [very well] in two different bolt guns and also feeds flawlessly in my
m-14 all at the same oal.

I will second what Run says about that mold. I wish I would have never sold it to him now. It shoots very well out of my bolt gun. It has a very good amount of bearing surface so it can handle higher FPS without stripping.

I was looking at that one earlier today. May have to try that one. Thanks

What kind of velocities were to get and still maintain accuracy?

I was shooting mine right at 2000 fps and was shooting 5 shot groups of .77" Run is pushing his a lot faster than I was. I was just using it to plink clay pigeons at 200 yds mainly. If I missed, it was me.

Since you asked for 200-210 gr, I have the NOE 311284, casts WW at 214 gr. I haven't done a lot with it yet but what little I have shot it accuracy looks promising @ just under 1900 fps. I need to get that out do some more with it, 5 cav mold drops some nice boolits.

That 165A from accurate looks a bit like a modified RCBS 165 sil bullet. Taper on front band, front band much wider to give better grip on rifling. Sort of a beefed up version to better handle pressure and velocity.

How much of that sits below the case neck or does that not matter? I'm new to casting for rifles so I apologize for any dumb questions or any can of worms I might open.

That would depend entirely on your rifle, it's throat, rifling height etc. My mold casts my alloy with a .300" bore riding nose. It chambers in my rifle with light engraving down the sides of the nose. I used to fully believe all the stories about never seat the check below the case neck but more & more I just don't believe it. I do try to prevent seating deep enough that any lube groove would be below the neck.

This boolit is 1.208" long of which .565" is bearing surface with a .645" long nose. My alloy drops a diameter of .3116".

I just got Tom's 31-215B in the mail 2 days ago; got it up to temp and started casting keepers right away! Tom, you do good work!!

That mold is my design as well. I designed it for the 7.62x54r to keep the check in the neck and to be seated at the crimp groove. It is for a slightly worn throat.
