I am new to reloading the 308 with cast. I would like some starting loads using the accurate 245 and a 160 cast
I have r15, varget, tac, unique, h4350, H335 h110, 2400
I am pretty sure I might not be able to stabile the 245 but maybe if I can push it will with a full power load.

Any help would be great
Chris

Hi Chris!

You got a manual?

Just the Sierra one. It only goes up to 210 and I didn't know if the powders I have would be good for the cast.

Use the Unique and that 160 grain boolit over 12 grains of unique.... I love unique for 308. I would try unique for the 245 also.... I would try 12 grains for that as well to start... Just keep an eye on things and use the ladder method to find what your rifle likes.... Make sure you slug the bore to see what to size the boolit for... Nobody likes a bad fitting boolit..

For 2400, also a great choice for cast, start with 19 grains with the top end going to about 22 grains.... Both of these loads might do better with some of that dacron or dryer lint to hold the powder against the primer... Just a touch will do ya.... If you have questions about using dryer lint, get with runfiverrun... He talked me into trying it and is the dryer lint expert... :bigsmyl2:

Just the Sierra one.

Okay Chris.

Get these two manuals, as they'll answer many questions:

I use unique for most cast boolits. start with 10 grains and see how it goes. 11.5 grains with a 205 grain boolit is a very good perfomer

i use 24 grains of 2400 in my 308 with a 168 a max as my standard load ........ or it could be 26 ...... i cant remember off the top of my head but it works , iv had it upto 28 grains but with no velocity increase after 26 so i stick to that ......... or 24

308 WIN rifles commonly come with 1:10" or 1:12" twist barrels. With a couple in 1:11".
If you have a 1:10" twist barrel the 245 grain should stabilize OK. With a 1:12 twist the theory says it won't work.

So how did it go with your loads. I use 22 gn with a 180 gn cb. Less than half inch moa. That's only one trip.

When I check out the molds on Tom's web page catalog. Looks like the 160 is plain base and if the other mold is 245B, that too is plain base. That will make a big difference in the loading.
