Alright I bought my Dillon back when Bush was pres and I think it cost about a little more than a Lee loadmaster does now, I think it was about $285.00, setup for 357mag. It's a 550.

Not sure what model Dillon you're talking about but I've got a couple of pretty good deals I think. First I bought a brand new SDB still in the original shipping box with 9mm and .357 conversion kits for $225 two years ago. Then I bought a 450JR two months ago set up for .44 Mag for $125. I REALLY like that 450 for doing load development for different calibers. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat for that same price.

One rl550 w/ 357 set up and 8 sets of dies was given to me by a co worker, another was bought off craigslist W/ 44, 9mm, 41, 45acp and a fl 2000 case tumbler barely used for 250.00

Good morning
Bought my first 550 back in 1989 I think. Was about that $285 area mentioned. Bought a second some years ago with extra stuff all mixed in a box, dirty, oily but servicable for $200.
Good machines for producing good ammo.
But I still load lots of rifle ammo on my old green "JR" press one ata time.

Somewhere around 2001, $168 for my SDB used with .38, .45ACP and .45 Colt tool heads set up. Sold the .45 Colt for $40 over on the SASS Wire.

Somewhere around 2007, $190 for my 550, brand new. That price included a brand new Dillon beam scale that I sold to a good friend for $25 and a hardcover Hornady manual that I have in the basement still in the plastic.

Didn't really want the 550, but the deal was just too good to say no to. I use it WAY less than the SDB.

I got my SDB (set up for 45ACP) in 1992 and paid the Dillon rate then.....$198 I believe.

I bought my 550 back in 1989 (cant remember what I paid), then later a co-worker was getting re-located to China for work so he gave me his 550. Still later I bought another co-workers ENTIRE collection of everything and a Dillon 550 was part of that lot. I needed cash and sold that one, now I kick myself.

Now the components... I think they breed when I'm not in the gun room.

rattletrap, that's a nice set up

I bought my first Dillon (450) in 1983, dont know what I paid, but it was when they first came out. I also got a 650 when they first came out, again what ever the list price was. I recently bought a used 550 for $250 in real nice shape.

I upgraded my original 450 to a 550 and the old 450 frame has been sitting on the shelf ever since. I decided to try to resurrect it. If I bought all the parts from Dillon, it would not be cost effective, however between parts from people here on the forum and ebay, and a couple of key pieces from Dillon, I have about $180, into it. Considering 450s are selling on ebay for $225+, it seems worth it. Besides, its kind of neat to rebuild an old machine. I prefer the 450 for my match ammo since it is a bit more rigid.

I bought my 550 with 2 caliber conversions back in 1995 or 6 for $250. Good investment, I've added to it. It's something I hope to give to a grandson in the future. You could probably break it, but you sure would have to beat on it hard. A solid machine.

SDB in 1993, either 198.50 or 212.50, I don't recall exactly but I do remember the 50 cents

Got my 550 at the end of 2000 for a retirement gift from my crew. Think they were over 3 hundred at that time.

I paid @$200 for my first Dillon SDB that was stolen during a move. Paid $250 for my next SDB that's a dedicated 357 machine and I got my new SDB (well, to me anyways), after much wheeling and dealing, for free. I bought a package deal and after everything else was sold off, the press was paid for. It's my 38 special dedicated press now.

I think I was one of the first to purchase a 450 in the early '80s. I remember paying less than $200 for it with primer feed, shellplate and powder measure.

My first dillon was a gift from my brother Robert (No_1). So it was free.
I purchased 3 square deal B's for around $300 each. Bought a 650 with case feeder for $700
I know I got a pile of money tied up in reloading stuff for sure.

I think I bought my first 550 for 225.00, then found a 450 in a pawn shop buried in dust and gave 25.00 for it.
I bought a second 550 and swapped it for a ponsess warren shot shell reloader, then ended up getting it back later when the reloader lost interest.
I don't remember what we payed for the 650 when we bought it, it was long before bill Clinton was in office though. [I remember buying a 223 conversion for it during that primer/brass scare] but it was about what a 550 goes for now airc with the case feeder and stuff.
some where along the line I ended up with a 450/ 4-550's/and a 650 plus "stuff' for them.

One thing I do find interesting (especially being a Mechanical Designer myself) are the design changes that the Dillon 550 has undergone from 1988 till now. All the little refinements, screw changes, etc, etc. I just think its really neat to watch an entire product line evolve for a quarter century.

'Nother guy here who's the original owner of an early 450 that's been upgraded 'bout every way possible. As I recall, I paid around $225 in 1984 and that included shellplates/expanders for four calibers. I gave something like $250 for a near-new SDB four or five years later but that price included mounted .38 Spl and .45 ACP die sets (w/powder measures), a Dillon powder/bullet scale, a small vibratory tumbler, and a box of assorted reloading supplies (powder, primers, and bullets).

I had two SDBs that I bought back when the man in the moon was a child and paid about $140-150 each for them. But my 550 was my steal.

Had a retired Law Enforcement friend who had ordered a 550 with everything except case feeder for 45 acp. He had tried to set it up, but mechanics are not his thing and he gave up. He offered it to me with 10K LPP, 3# WW 231, 2500 1X cases and 3000 Berry's bullets, if I would load him 1000 range loads. I would do more, but his health is bad and he probably will never shoot up the first one K. The only time he gets to shoot anymore is when I pick him up and take him to my range. This is a great deal for me and he enjoys the fact that I load 6 other calibers on it.

Kept my SDB's and load 38/357 with one and loaned the 45 ACP to a son in law. Now if I can just figure out how to buy or trade for some of this friends guns as his children have no interest. I have reinforced to him several times that I would be interested if and when he decides to sell. I tried to buy a small farm from a friend for years and one day his wife called and said, "draw up the papers and pay me, Gus is ready to sell."

$1100 for a Dillon 650 with case feeder 6 caliber conversions with tool heads, dies, and stands; A 550 with 5 caliber conversions with tool heads, dies, and stands, strong mounts and roller handles on both. 20 pounds of powder including an unopened 4 lb keg of 231, 2500 primers and 2 large boxes full of scales, uniflow power measure, electric case trimmer, 15 different sets of rifle and pistol dies, lots of brass and dozens and dozens of other things. This was in 2009 when the economy was in the toilet. Ended up giving the 550 to my hunting partner.

I bought my first Dillon (RL-300) from an ad in shotgun news - I think Mike was selling them out of his garage - and if I remember right it was around $150 dollars - I don't remember how much I paid for the 450 but I got that one about 20 years ago.

Got a pair of 550s at a local auction for £210 a couple of years ago. Compare that to the cost in the UK now for a new 550b at £420. Yep, thats $668 for a standard 550b with no calibre conversion or dies and I still think they are a bargain!

I cannot remember what I gave for my first "new" press. It came with one conv kit. I guess and say $ 3.79 n tax.

Couple months later i came across another (used)550b that had 5 conv kits, 2 complete quick change conv kits, five powder dies funnels, large and small powder bars tools, extra parts, easily worth $5/600 plus. Got it for $ 400.00 Everything was spotless. I only ended up selling 2 conv kits that i did not need.

There was nothing to do to get it up and running. I then had one press for small primers and one for large.

My first Dillon was a SDB setup for 38spc/357Mag and it was given to me by a friend who stopped loading. I had it for over 15 years and never open the box to see what was inside. Then, about 6 years ago, I got sick and couldn't work anymore so I opened the box and the addiction started.

Fast forward a bit and a friend tells me he wants to reload 45ACP so he can shoot "Bullseye". A couple of weeks later my friend buys me a NIB Dillon 550 setup for 45ACP, 9mm luger and .223 rem. I have since loaded him over 25K rounds of 45ACP, we are both happy.

Bought my first 550 for about $300.00 l long time ago bought the second 550 from a friend with all the extras I don’t remember how much it was.
I did tell him if he wanted to come over he could use the press anytime he did a couple of times then bought another 550 I told him I would buy it
from him if he ever needed the money.
I use one of the 550 for Large Primers and the other for Small Primers. I have recently setup one of the 550's in my bedroom to load 45 ACP, 45 Colt and 44mag.

I had a CH Auto Champ in .357mag it was to finicky to operate but I did make a lot of .357mag and .38 spc before I traded for a dent puller (that I have yet to use).

If I recall correctly, I bought mine as a 450 and upgraded it to the 550 then to the B. I THINK I paid something like $185 with one caliber. Man, that was a loooooooooooooon time ago. I'll bet more than 20 years ago anyway. I cannot tell you how good their NO BS warranty is. I have NEVER paid for a spare part to repair it. My blood runs Dillon blue.
My customer number is below 2000 to show you how long ago it was.
