.270 Ren

I just got back from shooting my Rex-Merrill in .270 Ren for the first time.

There is very little data for 130 grain cast boolits available. After doing a lot of searching and pondering I decided to give 6 grains of 2400 a try. The fired primers did not show any signs of high pressure.

Rex-Merrill .27 Max with 10 3/4" barrel.
Saeco #270 mould at 130 grains sized to 0.280" cast from linotype and old Lyman brass gas checks.
W-W small rifle primers.
6 grains 2400 powder.
TnT lube.
I was very happy with the results at 50 yards.

Anyone looking to use heavier boolits in the 270 Ren this looks like a good starting point.

I all ways wanted one of those. I loved my little 32-20 but sold it when I started shooting a 300 whisper. I may end up with a 270 ren one day

I have shot the 270 Ren for many years in hunters pistol. It is an extremely accurate and forgiving cartridge.

I must admit that I have never shot a cast boolit in the 270 Ren. But I have excellent results with the 90gr. and 110 gr. jacketed bullets.
You seem to get good accuracy with no matter what load you use. You just need to decide what velocity you want and go from there.
I used H-110 (W296) or 2400, which are all very similar. In a 110 gr. 8.9 gr. H-110 gave about 1400 fps. In 90 gr. 10.4 gr. H-110 gave about 1550 fps.
This was in a 10" contender barrel.

I tried several bullets of more weight but did not get the same accuracy.

What barrel and gun are you shooting the 270 out of?
