We have moved, and my notes on the .38-55 have not surfaced. So, again I'll ask for your help.
The rifle is a '94 Winchester Takedown 7*** serial number, and wheeeee--a double-set trigger! I've checked Ken Water's loads. He lists an "Excellent load" to be 28 grains of RL-7 behind a 255 grain cast bullet at approximately 1600 fps. My bullets are from Montana Bullet Works 255 gr. RNFP and 250 gr. FN-BB--BHN15. Starline brass.
Other sources on the internet show RL-7 24 gr. = approx. 1400 fps, and 24-32 grains = 1400-1800 fps.
I was trying to work up a load for this rifle with Alliant 2400, but with the latest powder shortage, I don't have enough of it to do much shooting
1600 fps is faster than what folks recommend for shooting cast. I don't have a chronograph.
I would prefer accuracy over speed.
Any thoughts and cautions regarding this quest to find an accurate load would be welcomed.
