Congratulations, little one should be good eating, Big one needed to be gone.

What kind of expansion do you get out of the SGK at TCU speeds?

I'm thinking about something along those lines and I'm just curious.

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

that big hog was shot @ 80 yards with a shot just in front of the shoulder. That bullet traveled nearly 2 1/2 feet and exited with a quarter size hole...

We have shot over 10 deer with this little 7mm TCU - broadside, high shoulder shots, at ranges from 60 yds. out to just over 200 yds., and on a deer, exit wound is between a golf ball and tennis ball in size. Needless to say, the deer have all dropped on the spot....

Wow.

So, sounds like you are getting some good expansion and penetration.
I have just put together a .300 blk. I have been hearing horror stories about no expansion with 150 grn + bullets.
Sounds like I should ignore the stories and shoot something and find out for myself.

Thanks for the reply.

Dave,

here is a link to the full story on my wife's hog hunt, with a couple more pictures...

I shoot a rimmed version of the 300 Blackout in a heavy barreled H&R that I built and my wife shoots the same cartridge in a custom T/C Contender. Both are loaded using 357 magnum brass and 300 Whisper/Blackout dies. Our "light" loads use Sierra's 110 gr. H.P. bullets @ 2,500 fps. and our "heavy" loads are Hornady 208 gr. A-MAX bullets @ 1,042 fps.. The Sierra load has taken 5 deer so far - all one shot kills, and the Hornady loading is what we use during the Summer to "pop" turtles in the local ponds with...

I am working on a new load, that uses SPEER's 125 gr. TNT bullet, as well as their 130 gr. hollow point and I believe this one is going to be our new deer bullet. With a behind the shoulder heart/lung shot, that bullet exits with a golf ball size hole and if a deer runs, it doesn't go very far....

My 7mm TCU Contender carbine (18" bbl) really likes that Lee 120 rngc boolit. Using 4198 powder for 1900 fps it routinely groups at about 1.5" and occasionally, if I have a good day gets down below MOA.

Thanks for sharing with us. I really enjoyed the pics and the 7 TCU is one of my favorites. Tell us more about that barrel.

Thank you Iowa Fox!

The barrel is a factory carbine barrel I took in on trade, that came with open sights. I cut the barrel back, just enough to remove the front sight screw hole, turned the barrel between centers for threading, recrowned the muzzle and screwed on the muzzle brake...

I modified the base and barrel to 6- screws, as well as epoxy bedded the base to the barrel....

You should do something to keep that scope from falling off....

You should do something to keep that scope from falling off....

I've tried but, I just couldn't get any more rings on it. The base and scope is just too short to accept any extra rings. I really don't know what I'm gonna do next time that scope falls off....
