Hi y'all,
Sitting watching tv, there is a commercial for "nuwave" induction cook top. It is $100 or so, but, and although I really despise ordering from the ads on tv, I'm thinking of getting one to heat moulds. They state that it is closely temp controlled and what you set is what you get......

Of course with induction, the cook top stays cool, the metal pan, etc gets hot. The downside, other than price, would be the tempered glass top.... You get some cheap pans too. Worth a try? (My little hot plate gave up the ghost). I have nothing to do with this company.

I got one for cheap from Newegg.com and has worked find for cooking at work where space is limited. $100 seems a little to much.

I looked at the website closer and, for a limited time:groner: you get two for that price plus the pans. I may just make one.

I've recently been looking at induction cooktops for our kitchen (my wife decided she wanted a new kitchen!) and was all set to order one when it was pointed out to me that in order to work the pans must be at least a little magnetic. Guess what, my wife's high quality stainless steel pans are all non-magnetic, so won't work on it (I even got them to try one in the shop). No induction cooktop for us.

So just be aware, unlike conventional hotplates they don't necessarily work with all pots.

Good to know. Rules it out for brass.

I am sure that they would love to sell an adaptor...

You know what they say about a deal that sounds too good to be true!

this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B64O0S/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is the one I ended up getting off amazon. $58 shipped with amazon prime. I'm surprised how fast it heats up cast iron. Works great for heating up lube and as a mold heater when you have a cast iron flat plate with the molds covered. I use a Lodge square cast iron plate with no probs. The top is also made of ceramic so it should take more heat then tempered glass.
