I have some black dog 454 235 gr cast boolits that I would like to load with h-110 powder.
I want it for hunting deer and black bear in my 7.5 " Casull revolver. Does any one have a favorite load info for this cartridge that you would share. Nothing radical as most shots are under 100 yards. Are gas checks a must?
Thanks for the help.

the issue you got is that H-110 powder only has one setting, a case full with a bullet on top of it.
if you want to throttle the load down you need a different powder like 2400, herco, unique or
aa#-9.

For med. to soft loads in the Casull, you could get away with pb if sized optimally, but not anywhere near top end loads, there it's hard cast and gas checks and usually much heavier bullets for best accuracy and knockdown power, remember this cart. in F/A revolvers is rated at 55K pressures.

I think you'll find H-110 really is at its best with 300 gr and heavier cast bullets in the 454. For a sub 300 gr bullet with a plane base you are probably best to keep your loads to Ruger 45 colt levels. Blue dot or 2400 should be in the ball park to push those 235's 1200 fps

Good advice so far. I have shot PB to over 55,000 psi with super accuracy but you might want to soften for the high velocity when hunting and then a GC will be needed to halt boolit skid.
Shot too fast with a hard boolit, the .454 can be a hole punch like a FMJ.

I have great results with the Nosler 260 Partition and Freedom Arms 260 gr with 296/H110.!!!

From both my 71/2" and 10" Freedom guns , I get just under 2000 fps and with a scope on for load testing I
can get right at 2" 100 yd groups.
So I would say that you can use 296/110 for the lighter bullets with success.

I have not done much with boolits in the .454 yet, and will be using heavier versions when I do. However my .44s are my heavy boolit guns!!

I know the guns can do better, but I AM NOT a very good scope shooter. I hunt only with open sights and have just
recently begun using a scope at the range.
