hello all i am new to this site and relatively in experianced at shooting lead bullets . i have recently bought a marlin 1894 with the 18.5 inch barrel . in 357 mag. and wondering what would be the most accurate bullet/ mold to buy . i am currently shooting a 158 gn semi wadcutter with 16.5 gn w296 and a fed small pistol primer velocity is 1740-1770 groups are 2-2.5 inches@ 75 yds. i think the gun is capable of better accuracy if i find the rite bullet any help would be appreciated thx

Welcome,
use a pure lead boolit and
Slug the barrel, size 0.001-0.003" over.
I have heard the Lee 125gr RNFP boolit does good. You might want to search/ post inn the lever gun section.

What mold are you using?
Is it gas checked?
Slower powder might be the trick.

i use a rcbs 158gc swc for my 94trapper 13.5g 2400 1520fps or rcbc 180gc 11.5g 2400 1250fps, you might have to seat this bullet deep as on the crimp grove it works in my winchester but not in the marlin unless single loaded

Several boolits are out there. Many will work well, some better than others. Only you and your rifle will tell which is best for you. It's a great adventure finding out what works best for whatever your application is. Many variables.
Welcome to the best cast site around.

You might not get the answer you are looking for, as said before,
your firearm, your mold.
A good start is this.

It is a good long read.

I haven't had a chance to add the rossi to my collection so can't say from experience. But a few folks have had excellent results from the Mihec 359640 mold that casts a 158 gr hollowpoint or 170 gr fp.

I use the NOE 360-180 wfngc sized to .358 in my Marlin. They are loaded over 14.5 gr Lilgun and are very accurate at 50 yards with about 3/4-1-1/2" groups shot with a 4x scope. Plenty good for me as it never shot any better than that even with jacketed and probably over 20 different loads. If you buy commercial cast then I had good luck with the Cast Performance 180 boolits.

If you want better accuracy with magnum level loads then go to a GC bullet; the WFN mentioned being a good choice as is Lyman's 358156. If you want just better accuracy with a PB'd bullet then lower the velocity to 850 - 1150 fps and use a faster burning powder.

I have had good luck with the RCBS 357- 180 Sil boolet in my Marlin, shot well with Re7. Alloy was soft enough that the nose was flattened while sizing using a flat bottomed nose punch in the Lyman 45.

Lee 358 158 RF is a wonderful design and I have pushed it to max vel in pistol
(16+ gr of H110) with no issues. I suspect it will feed thru the levergun OK and
still work at the slightly higher vel.
