I found this on eBay last week and just had to have it. The seller had no idea what it fit and neither did I. I could not figure out the combination of threads and set screw to hold it in a press, and which press?
The threads are 7/8-14 tpi and the shank is 9/16".

Hmmm.. looks like ram had a set screw to keep that shellholder from backing out. Very interesting.

That could have been a ram prime shell holder.

I'd guess either an old C&H or Hollywood.

Well, I had better come clean. Once I had it in hand it did not take long to figure it out. Now, I like the American spirit of ingenuity, freedom and individualism. A man that can make things with his own hands, look adversity right in the eye and jack slap the **** out of it. Metro sexual's, girly men and marines wearing girly hats I do not need.

So what is this shellholder? It is a Herter's #19, threaded shellholder that has the knurling turned off. The shank threads into the bottom and has two divots for set screws. That right there pointed me to Lyman and I was correct. It is homemade adapter that fits four of the five Lyman presses that use the "J" shellholder.
Looking at the design I was impressed with the simplicity and thought that went into it. It was probably made when the Herter's shellholders were more common, or it could have been made as a one off for a specific cartridge. Either way, my hat is off the the maker, who ever he may be.

The fact that herters shellholders cost less than a dollar when lyman, rcbs, etc, cost $3 or $4 may have had something to do with it --
