Had an opportunity to fill my extra doe tag today. Rifle was Win. 94 in 356 Win. Load was RCBS 200 FNGC cast of 70/30 over 33 gr.of IMR 3031 lit by WLR primer. Lube was r5r's Simple Lube. This load has been doing real well in this little gun on paper and I was anxious to see it work on game. It works.

85509
Me and the deer, she is not huge.
85510
Entrance wound, I hit her in the right side, 5th rib back, she was standing with legs right under her, that's why it looks like 2 holes.
85511
Exit wound, 5th rib back, again legs back under her, thus the hole in rear of upper leg (tricep?)
85507
A side view of the Skinner Sight on the 94
85508
Rear view of sight. I love this sight on this gun.
The shot was at 75 to 80 yards, standing broadside. She went about 50 yards before piling up. This is my second deer kill with cast, first was with 357 carbine. My youngest son was with me and helped drag and load her. We both commented on the resounding "whack" that boolit made as it hit her. Wish I had expansion results to show, but apparently she wasn't big enough to stop it.

There ya go Onceabull!!! Told ya I'd use it!! JW

Indeed it does "Work" - nice shooting and I'll bet a great tasting deer! I'm surprised she made it 50 yards - thanks for posting you are making me feel like I need to get my mod 92 in .357 out in the woods :)

I don't see many people hunting with a .356 Win. Good job and good deer and load.

Good gun/gunload combo. Good shot, besides paper it looks like it prints good on hair. Tender vittles, and congrats.

200 gr boolit at about 2,000 fps, poor deer didn't stand a chance.
probably coulda lined up three of them.
I got dib's on some of that backstrap cut into London broils.
peppered then wrapped in bacon pan seared on each side, then finished off under the broiler for about 2 minutes on each side.

Good job! I saw a pretty sweet 94 in .356 recently but had to pass, was all I could do to put her back on the rack. There's something irresistable about a 35 cal, 200 gr boolit at a reasonable velocity.

BUT---------------But-------BUT----but: just think of how much deader the poor thing would be if you had brought THAT 270 elk masher of yours. !!! Nice addition of that Skinner R.S., though....[smilie=f: Onceabull

Congratulations on the deer, that's a heck of a nice rifle you're using there. I'm not sure any deer would stop that boolit at that range.

What is the brand of peep sight....really like it....are they available for Marlins? Did you have to have that beautiful rifle drilled for the sight?

Great story and congrats on the harvest.....do I see jerky, chili, or sausage?

It's a Skinner sight, mounts in the screw holes drilled for scope mounts in an AE 94. Wouldn't be surprised if they made it for Marlins but I haven't seen it.

My wife has one of those rifles with a scope on it that she uses for deer. I have thought about getting a mold for boolits for it, but I have a whole box of J-bullets that she only uses about 3 a year. Is your mold the RCBS 82028, .35-200-FN 565? Where is a good place to buy one of these molds from? I think my wife needs to convert to shooting boolits.

Nice job on that doe, any deer with cast bullets is great, having your son there to help you get it out just adds to the experience.

yeah he uses the rcbs 35-200 rnfp. [err fngc designation]
it's the big brother to the 30-150 fngc for the 30-30.

Very nice job! Great rifle/sight combo also!!

Yes, the Doctor Sight is made for Marlins ......... I talked a newbie into finding a Marlin in .45-70 and then topping it off with an appeture sight ........ I lined up his choices and with a bit of coaching on my part ........ he chose the Doctor!

He's not looking back either!

Good deer, congrats.

The .356 was basically a rimmed .358 Winchester, wasn't it? In any case, looks like .35 Remington ballistics whichis about perfect deer cartridge if there is such a thing.

One of the best cast bullet cals. esp. in a levergun, congrats on the deer, my '94 ae .356 wears a 2 1/2 power scope (I know, I know) and really likes the Saeco 245 gr. FP GC.

Yeah, the ol' 270 would've mashed this on for sure, the entire front end would have been bloodshot. Looks like the cast contained most of the shock, bruising to the ribcage, and there isn't much to eat there. I'll see for sure here in a couple days when I cut her up. By the way Bill, I am really enjoying that rifle, the darn thing just always wants to do good, it is a pleasure to work with. You are right about the Skinner, now my brother wants one for his rifle so I guess I'll get him one for x-mas. JW

Yes Don, that is the exact mould. I bought mine from Midway. JW
