i have 2 plumer burners. i got a new pot 10 in pipe cut and welder. the plumer burners are 43,000 btu and did not doo a good job of heating it up. bought a bayou sp-1 jet burner. it is 100,00 btu. does a grate job. i now have to make a sheal around it to keep all the heat going around the pot. i bought it from LALAGNIAPPE.COM $38.95 plus shipping. fast service. woorks grate.

That's a good price for a high output burner and it looks to be a good 'un! I have the one they sell for $71 sitting next to it that they don't recommend. :( LOL

I may have the older model with the high pressure regulater because it works great too....but I paid $62 which is a lot more than you paid. If I need another burner, I will certainly consider that $38 special.

also if you look at it , it has a flex steel hose thai i like better than rubber.

Consider a metal flex hose to flex once to fit into position and be left there. I spent most of 26 years out of a 28+ year career investigating gas leaks. Flex hoses moved after they have taken a set crack easily. Commercial cooking equipment by code should have a ruber hose and a metal cable stop to keep from pulling the end of the hose when it stops. Flex is ok for an easy piping job but it is not meant for repeated movement. Gianni

I think the metal flex is only the outer covering of a rubber tube.

No, I think the one he's referring to, is the "accordian pleat" brass tubing like is used behind gas ranges. They're usually about 1"OD. If flexed too often, they tend to "work harden" and crack.

Bingo, The other is a rubber over a wire braid. Gianni

Is there a reasonably priced source for rubber gas hose? The only place I've seen it is in a propane to natural gas conversion kit for BBQ's at Home Depot. They want $50 for a few feet of hose and 2 gas valves for a BBQ.

Dave, Check with a propane supplier. Gianni

For you do-it-yourselfers out there, you can make a great smelter using a fast recovery cast iron water heater burner. The cast iron ones are the best and longest lasting, you will need a regulator and a valve to control the height of the flames, the burner should come with the air regulator on it for setting the air/fuel ratio. You can get the hoses and regulator at a propane supply or a farm store.

If you want to go with Natural Gas instead of Propane do asmtgrs737 said, get an old cast iron burner from a NG water heater. With the NG instead of propane you don't need a regulator, just a valve to control the height of the flame and a hookup hose and that is it.
