Just got an E-Mail from Ruger, this was discussed on one of the threads.

Is it going to cost $1,000,000 dollars and will it be available? The last time the ruger shotguns were available they were a flop to me as for the money I could get a better name/quality shotgun.

1400 clams. That is a chunk of change. I hope for their sake that the quality is tip top notch.

Yep, not interested at $1400.00.

I didn't even know they had stopped production of Red Labels. I know the original ones were pretty utilitarian. Maybe they will bring back the Gold Label side by side while they are at it.

The only red label in my house right now houses scotch whiskey. It was definitely not 1400 bucks.
(disclaimer)
Red Label Scotch is for sure not the best of the best. I would suggest others before it.

When I was a kid I lusted after an ithaca ou. It was way out of my reach at around 350 iirc. In real time dollars that red label at 1400 is probably no worse than that ithaca was in the 70's.

I did have a RL for a short while. It made me realize how much I liked auto loaders. The darn thing automatically went to safe when the gun was broken open. I just couldn't get used to it.

I wasn't aware Ruger shotguns were considered classics. I have a bunch of O/Us and they range in price from cheap to way more than they're actually worth. The one I grab first every time is a Remington branded Baikal. Even though $1400 is cheap in the shotgun world it's still to steep for a field gun.

I heard/knew Ruger was coming out with a new shotgun, but was hoping it would be a pump/semi-auto. Was actually bummed when I got the same email. Like a dog going back to its vomit, Ruger needs to keep going in the great direction they have been headed.

The Ruger Red Labels were very good O/U's but they never became that popular on the Skeet and Sporting Clays fields. Solidly built and very well made. I bought one used from a friend with about 50K through it and put another 20-25K through it myself. My nephew bought it from me and it's still doing fine. IMO they were too plain jane for the target crowd and too expensive for the hunters but they were well made guns. BTW the auto safety took about 5 minutes to deactivate.

My 28 Red label is as nice a gun as I would want to follow a dog with. The safty is on the tang where it is instenctive on a covey rise and with the quail numbers we have, holds enough shells for a days hunt. I really like the mechinical trigger over the recoil activated ones on most over/unders. Did I mention the weight? It is a joy to carry. Most field guns I have handled could benifit from a serious weight reduction program.

I've heard folks fuss about the Ruger O/U's ove the years and I bought a 20 ga when they first came out and maybe I just got a good one since it has worked flawlesly for me. Those days they did not have the interchangable chokes but thats okay by me. Maybe I'm just to easy to please.

I absolutely love my 28 also. Again - 5 minutes to deactivate the auto safety...

Shot plenty of quail, chukar and pheasant with it, but I doubt I'd pay that much for one when there are so many quality O/U's out there...

I too love my ruger red label. I bought it in a 28 gauge to shoot skeet, but have done very well on quail and dove too. I am glad to see it back, but my father is probably happier. He had been trying to purchase one ever since he tried mine :)

Love my 20ga Blued Receiver Ruger RL..........Fits me like a custom made shotgun! Extremely well built. I don't think I've ever heard of one "wearing out"

Looked at them a few years back when I was in the market for a 28 gauge O/U.

Nicely made but very plain jane which did not justifiy the 1399 asking price.

Bottom line I bought a Mossberg silver Reserve in 28 gauge with removable chokes for under 600.

It has some decoration on it and is worth exactly what I paid for it, shoots great at trap and I enjoy it very much.

Ruger needs to rethink it's marketing on this, much better wood and or some engraving would help the consumer spend these kinds of dollars.

Had the one I looked at been prettier I would have made the buy. Ruger needs to learn that the more it costs the better it needs to look as far as shotguns are concerned!

I had one of their 12 gauge O/U's and really liked it, I shot a lot of ducks with mine.
I decided to get rid of it when I caught myself using it to break ice with to set my decoy's.
decided a 1-k pry-bar was a bit out of my price range.

I bought a 12 gauge red label when they first came out for $629 (new). Best shotgun I ever owned. Quit hunting and sold it a couple years ago at gun shop, they offered me $1250.

I got to look at one out here in CA and it looks very nice. Price here is $1199 so I'm pretty sure street price will be cheaper wherever you are.

You can buy a used 50-75% field grade LC Smith, Parker or virtually any of the lesser known guns (Baker, American, Lefever, etc.) in pristine condition with lots of colors in a side by side for that.
Sorry...no sale.
