The picture says it all. He filled my tag for me. ( mentored youth hunting ) Oregon law. He is only 11. Taken using my 45 cal. Kentucky mountain rifle using patch and ball that we cast together. 84895

Looks like he did you proud. In Oregon can he not get his own tag?

That's awesome. I was about his age when I took my first spike with a hand loaded 243 with a then, fairly new to market, Barnes X bullet at about 35-40 yds. I bet you're a very proud father. I still have a few before I take mine out, but I can't wait.

The first shot is one too many, 10,000 are not enough.

Congratulations to him and to you. He will tell this story to his grandchildren, and then take them hunting as well.

Its a blacktail for those wondering , In oregon you have to turn 12 before the first day of the hunt to get your own tag. He has a 243 of his own. I told him mine was a BP tag. so he had to use one of the smoke sticks. Needless to say , He didnt mind one bit.

Great job to you dad and an especially great job by your young man.
I do love to see these pics and read these stories. Gives me hope. Makes me think that perhaps all might not be lost for our next generation.

Both my boys are growing up learning all there is to know about hunting, fishing, and shooting ofcourse. Micahs deer was cap and ball. Dont have a flint lock yet. Was actually looking at one in a kit the other day. dont remember what brand. The boys want to do a kit together. I figured for christmas . Santa would get them both one. I want to do a shotgun. They both want revolvers(didnt see that coming). Ido my best to keep My boys growing up the way I did aswell as my family before me. Its not easy at times. But it is paying off.

That's great to see. Love hearing about kids out in the woods hunting. Even more so when there is a success story to go along. Congratulations to him and you.

Thanks for sharing. Give him a big pat on the back from us. I hope he gets first dibs on the backstrap at dinner time.
