I am looking for another mold for a 40S&W. I will be using a lone wolf glock bbl that mikes at .402. I have the Lyman 150 gr SWC and was looking for a good, proven mold.
Thanks

When I used to shoot the 40SW I purchased a mold from Mountain Molds. I got out of the 40SW market only to simplify my like. No other reason. It was one of the most reliable and repeatable molds I have owned. you put your desired bullet dimensions into the website and magically molds arrive in the mail. I used similar dimensions to the Lee 401-175 mold.

Here is one of the smoothest feeding .40 S & W cast bullets available.

This mold ( Lyman 40043 ) cast a solid bullet that weighed 180 grs.prior to sending it to Buckshot for HP'ing. These HP's now weigh 165 grs. The pin opening is large enough to offer some good expansion. The end of the HP pin goes to the 1st crimp groove in depth.

I'll be shooting these in the .40 S & W

As cast dia is .402 "

Thanks,
Ben

That Lyman 401654 (150 gr SWC) is the best shooter I've found for my G22 w/LW barrel. I like it better than the Lee 401-175-TC. I have been eyeballing the NOE HP's.

The Lee 401-175-TC (conventional lube groove version) has done well for me in 4 pistols to date. These Lee TC designs work very well for me.

MTtimberline beat me to it. Mihec may still have some of the 190gr molds available. PM him to ask. $165iirc.

190gr sounds heavy for 40sw but this really is the ideal boolit for the cartridge. It will do 1000fps in a 4" barrel. The hp pins reduce the weight to about 185gr.

There's a good thread in the results forum complete with dead deer, ballistics gel, load data, pictures, video, etc.

Anyone have a recommendation on a 180gr .401 RN mold without lube grooves for PC'ing?

Custom. I don't think there is an off the shelf mold like that yet.

Anyone have a recommendation on a 180gr .401 RN mold without lube grooves for PC'ing?

I modified a Lee 6 cavity BB mould to a FB mould using a reemer I bought off ebay for $1
I don't see why you couldn't cut the lube groove out of a mould in a similar fashion.
I forgot that the mould diameter would be different from the finish bullet diameter when I ordered the reamer.
(When I say reamer, I am talking about a precision reamer not a taper pipe reamer)
You could probably make your own reamer from drill rod if you needed to.

If you were in my area I would try to help you make one just for kicks

I got the Lee 401-175 TC and shoot it in my M&P 40, usually get 4 good bullits out of 6 on average.

Need to look at and consider NOE 160&180 gr RN. I have the 160 and have casted several thousand amd my Glocks eat them up!

I like the Lee 6 cavity 175gr lube groove, my reject rate is about 2% give or take. They feed and shoot perfectly in 2 40 S&W pistols and my 1911 in 400 corbon.

Is that NOE a brass mold? I am wanting a 401 HP mold and not sure what to try.

Moonie - I dug out my old 400 CorBon barrel to build a 1911. Does the base of that Lee 175 hang into the powder space. I was figuring 135s with that short neck...

Could not find a .40 180gr mold without lube grooves for powder coating. Had one made I'm pretty happy with.

Lee.401-175-TC standard groove over 4.2 gr 231 . Shooting out of lone wolf glock barrel. Feed great and under 2" at 25y. Weird thing is that after I did the trigger the damn glock shoots better than my colt 1911 series 70. Kind of pisses me off.
