Red Dot or Pormo 5.0 gr is a great mid-range load that chrony's @ 1050 fps in pistol or 1200 fps in rifle.
Alliant 2400 11.0 gr is very accurate pistol load @ 1125 fps.
My favorite 358477 Blue Dot load is 8.5 gr with @1130 fps pistol and @ 1390 fps rifle.

5.4 gr Unique is Max and very accurate in a 38 special. Over book now but was not for the previous 20 years. I would start there in the 357 cases and quit when I loose accuracy.

5.0 grains of Reddot worked well for me in the .357. It is definitely hotter than a .38 but not a full power load. It was very accurate.

358477 was the first bullet I cast, so I've shot them for about 40 years now. I've gotten good plinking and playing results with Bullseye, Unique, 231, and Green Dot. I don't think the powder matters as much as finding the right load for a given suitable powder.

red dot at about 4 grs should make a good paper poker.
I have shot about a half ton of 358477's over 4 grs of 231 and liked the results.

Are you crimping in the forward groove or on the front band??
Lyman cast bullet book lists 1.510" which is on the front band....
If I crimp in the front groove I'm about .020" off the cyl throat...
Whatever works, huh???

FWIW, I loaded 12 rnds with 11.0/2400 and crimped on the front band (1.510)
Shot it off bench at 25 yds.....actually grouped better than same load crimped in front groove.......????? !!!!!!
Only 12 rnds so......more loaded to try further!

7.5 grains Unique and crimping in the crimp groove. These just barely fit in the cylinder of my medium frame Colts (.357 model, Python, MKIII and V troopers) but it sure works well for me.

5.2gr W231 in 38spl cases give a little over 1000fps in my 4" 357 and is accurate.

Using 358477 boolits 5.0 grains of Unique in .38 Spl cases works well for me. In .357 Magnum one of my revolvers likes 6.0 grains of Unique, and the other likes 7.0 grains of Unique.

I have a venerable old 358477 mold I acquired from my stepfather. 8.0 gr Unique in my Mod 19, crimped to top groove. It's a max book load.

crimping over the front shoulder didn't hold up accuracy wise, not consistently better.....
moving to unique..
