A friend of mine sent me this picture asking the question.

They're roughly .38 diameter with a hollow base.

My best guess was either some type of ml boolit, or a slug for a .410.

Looks like hollow based wad cutters for a 38/357.

They look like 38 cal. hollow base wadcutters. Maybe a different style then we are used to seeing. Ask your friend if the weight of the wadcutter is around 148gr.

Could also be a wad cutter for something in the .375 class. there are so many new type of guns my info that comes the closest is .375

Two different styles there. A swaged hollow base WC and a cast double end WC.

I am going with KYCASTER, 148 gr wadcutters, both cast and swaged. Back in the 70's I shot many of the swage and shot well at target V. Mic them to be sure of the size.

+1 on .38 cal ( .357) hollow base wadcutters.
I have shot a zillion of them.

They are also available from Speer, Hornady, and Magtech. And probably others.

Looks just like Taurus brand swaged lead hollow based .38 wadcutters. These were lubed with a
waxy graphite lube and made of dead soft pure lead. They haven't been made for
a long time, at least 20 yrs, I'd estimate.

Of course, probably other makers of swaged HB WCs, but the ones I have seen have knurling
or other surface finish, except Taurus.

There are two types of bullets there - swaged and cast as mentioned already.

One has a grease groove and two crimping grooves, those are DEWC, the others have a small hollow base and a recessed button nose, those are swagged.

They do get light charges. For one, they're soft. For two, they seat deep in a case. For three, the skirt can rip from a hollow base and lodge/obstruct a barrel.

I have both style bullets in 38 cal. use them in a S&W 52-2. The ones I have with the small dimble on one end and hollow base are 148 gr. hollow base wad cutters and made Star Bullet. The other style are also wad cutters and are 148 gr. but do not know the mfg. Both are soft lead and are to be loaded light, if loaded to high the skirt or hollowed base can seperate and cause an obstruction in barrel. My bullets are quit old.
