84474100 pounds of tin i got for .50 cents a pounds. I got two of these ammo cans the guy said they used to load the whole can into the wings of the aircraft thats why they have the rounded bottom corners. Can anybody confirm this?

It's possible that they were used to feed the wing mounted machine guns on the fighters. Are they .50 caliber cans? Do they have any markings? M2, USA, USN, AAC? AAF?

I believe he meant the cylinder shaped weights.
unless I miss my guess those are kester solder bars they weigh 1-1/3rd pounds and contain a pound of solder the rest lead and trace elements.
I use the same thing and add one bar per 100 pounds of ww's for the wifes favorite alloy.

That can should be stamped on the side. Probably "20mm mkIII" It's a 20mm ammo can. Don't know if they were directly loaded like that, but I doubt it.

I have 3 of that style ammo cans, mine are marked proximity fuses, probably for mortar or artillery.

I was going to say that looks like the Navy style cans. I also would say I've seen that style mostly for holding shell fuses or 20mm ammo.

I like the old military cans. I have a couple of the 50 cal cans they are just neat looking with the side latching.
