They're easy to load for and accurate, if you can find one. I bought an officers model carbine ANIB, with the origional box about 5 years ago, a fun gun. I size my boolits to 459 for it.

They have not been made in years. I had one years ago they are great guns. I prefer the originals but the HR are high quality.

I've got one of the plain-jane H&R carbines and the only complaint I've ever had was that mickey-mouse folding rear sight. Picked up an original (1884) carbine ('C'-marked) rear sight off Flea-Bay and have never looked back. Fun to shoot and always gets grim looks from the mouse-gunners...'specially when shooting BP loads out that short barrel.

It's the 'Little Bighorn' commemorative.

It's superbly accurate, which is nice! :-) I guess H&R really made excellent barrels. It's a lot of fun to shoot with slugs up to 350grs. Much heavier then that and the carbine becomes not so much fun!

I told a shooting buddy about my 1873 H&R 45-70, he made me an offer that I couldn't refuse, now he owns it.
It was a great shooter, but, the 420 grain cast bullets were a bit much after shooting 40 rounds in one sitting.
Some pain is fun..........

I got an LBH Carbine and Officer's Model also. I've put original M1879 rear sights on both and have a M1873 rear sight so I could compare the capabilities of the original sights.

I love mine and my OM may be my most shot rifle.

I have the long rifle model H&R Trapdoor ( same as the bottom rifle as shown in this picture :119743

My old eyes are having trouble using the ladder rear sight, and I'd like to mount a rear "tang" adjustable peep sight ( creedmore sight ?) ....

Any advice on what would be best for the H&R trapdoor is appreciated.
