I've had good experiences casting for my 30/312 rifles. Now I'm thinking about breaking out. My wife has a sweet sporter based on a Spanish Mauser . We been shooting J-words through it with ok results. I want to cast for it.

It's got an oversize bore--slugs at about .289 iirc. Original barrel, so I'm guessing ill need a boolit on the heavy side. (I borrowed some .287 cast boolits and they tended to keyhole.)

Can someone recommend a mold--in production?

It's probable that one of these fellows will be interested in selling you a mould:

So far, some of the moulds are oversize. If you are interested I can send you some samples in the .290-.291 range, just send me a pm.

..............NOE completed a GB for a .288" 150gr design a couple months back. Might check to see if he has any extras. Those military 7x57's were throated for a 175gr slug too. Be nice if another GB was done to mimic the RCBS 7mm-168 only as a Loverin vs. the bore rider design. Sigh! :-)

I had Mountain Molds make this mold for me a couple of months ago.

This is for a Chilean Short Rifle. I did an impact cast of the throat and used the measurements to "design" the perfect mold to match the throat. To say that the throat on this rifle is oversized is a gross understatement!!!! It drops right at .290" with a nose band of .287" and a "bore-rider" nose of .280". Due to the limitations of the mold design software I knew I would have to manipulate the finished product to get the best fit. I size the nose band and first body band nose first in a .285" die. The resulting boolit engraves fully on the nose band and just touches the nose and first body band. When loaded over 16 gr. of Alliant Steel groups at 50 yds average around the 1" area with the open sights. There are a few other, eh.....quirks that have to be dealt with but for a low volume shooter it is worth it.

I do have the new NOE .288" diameter mold and hope to try it out later this week.

How about something like this:84642

I've been thinking about running this through JTKnive's or NOE.

Also, maybe we could look into different band/nose sizes such as:

Recent Commercial guns .276" nose / .288" bands

New-Like New Military Contract Guns .278" nose / .290" bands

Worn Military Contract Guns .280" nose / .292" bands

Thanks for the leads and very helpful info.
I found a Lyman Ly2660641 150gr, but not sure if I can beagle it enough. For some reason it is designated "For Pistol Bullet."

I'm going to slug my barrel again, to be sure what I've got.
