I was thinking about trying some WC 820 in 38 special but I cant find any data for it anywhere.

Can it be used or is it just for magnum cartridges

I would be using a 158 gr SWC

Thanks

Might work for a heavy load, using 2400 data. I wouldn't think of it in light loads. There is a reason they make powders in different burning speeds...

I once loaded some mid level 125 grain cast .357 rounds for use in a light duty revolver (Charter Arms Bulldog Tracker) with WC-820 PD powder which performed fine in warm weather though gave me a bullet stuck in the barrel and an action full of tiny little balls in cold temps.

I shot up the remaining rounds in a Rossi rifle after pushing the boolit lightly against the powder charge which made them act much hotter and they worked well in hot or cold weather

I would avoid the use of WC-820 in a 38 Special especially with cast boolits, I doubt even the use of magnum primers will give dependable ignition with loads that are at safe 38 Special pressures.

I wouldnt use it just for the economics. It would be cheaper to buy some bullseye or even a better value would be some of the promo powder. The fact that your going to use 3 times as much powder is going to eat your savings right up and your wasting a powder that is ideal for ohter cartridges.

Yup, I had a bad experience with WC820 using light boolits and powder charge in .454 Casull. It has some of the same characteristics as H-110 or WW296. Use it in .357 magnum loads, but stay away from low pressure .38 special loads.
