I just got my new Lee 356-120-TC. When I hold it up to the light, I can see light shine through in middle of the seem. The ends (last cavity on) are tight. But the center has a hairline gap. I washed it and checked it for burrs: no improvement. I could cast with it and see what it does. Or I could try to return it to Midway. Any thoughts?

Return it, they've got others.

It is worth a shot to give it a go. If you can, keep track of which bullets dropped out of which cavity and measure them. In the event that the mold casts well, make sure the center ones are not coming out obround rather than round.

Even if the mold is brand new never used, they will expect you to pay for shipping. A warped mold is becoming more and more common from Lee.

Go ahead and try it out. If there is an issue you can send it directly to Lee and they will make it right.

Be sure you do not touch the sprue lever when closing the mold. Even the weight of your little finger on this lever will force the mold open a crack just like you describe.

See this page.

You will not get good bullets if the mold doesn't close completely.

I had a very similar situation. My first cast session had tons of fins & connectors because it was warped. I posted about it, too. Check it out at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?171365-First-casting-results&highlight=

Correction - my 2nd session, but it was worse than the 1st. I also sent my mold to Lee, and they replaced the body, keeping the sprue plate the same.
