Howdy,

I am curious if one can mix pellets and loose in the same charge.

Found some 50gr pellets and i have some loose and use 80-90 grains in the in-line.

Seems to me it would work if the pellet was put in first .

What say all?

I would say load it up and try it, just let the rest of us know the results. I also would drop the pellet first, the hole through the pellet would let the fire from the primer reach the loose powder on top.

Going to try it later today.

Both with sabots and some 50 cal that i cast last year.

I would load the powder first for better ignition. Pellets are best suited to be lit with 209 primers. Just be careful. Pellets shouldn't be crushed, but if powder gets loose (fills in pellet hole), you could have pressure issues and risk bulging the barrel like when a ball/bullet isn't properly seated...

Well i went out and loaded a pellet first then loaded 30 grains of 777 loose, then loaded a 295 grain powerbelt slug.

This in-line is primed by a 209 primer and that sucker went bang.

I know that 1 shot does not mean that there will be no problems later but it does answer my question about loading a 90 grain charge with both types of powder.

When i have more time i plan on shooting some of my homemades.
