At 7:15 this morning my 10 yr old grandson pulled the trigger on his first deer - sitting in a buddy stand with his dad. The shot was 15 yds, the deer was walking, the gun a youth Benelli pump 20 ga with full choke screwed in. The load was mine, 18 pellets #3 lead buckshot in a Remington hull, HS-6 powder. 10 pellets through center mass all but 2 passed through and they were just under the opposite side hide. Both my sons, also pictured, killed their first with 20 ga buck as well at age 10. He got his first turkey this spring with a load of #4 shot reloads. For the record, that's at least 20 deer my family has taken with a 20 ga buckshot load over the years, never a loss. Couldn't resist, had to include a pic with grandaddy too, who was bowhunting not too far away. I saw this deer last year but thankfully couldn't get a shot. He's a nice buck for these parts, 3 1/2 yrs old, 170 pounds, good mass 8 pt. "Every good gift and every perfect gift comes down from above, from the Father of lights, in whom there is no shadow of turning." Thank you Father for a great day!

You are blessed Brother Hogtamer. Good to see you perpetuating what is right with this Country. BTW, one of the best Bible verses.

Good morning HogTamer, congratulations, thanks for sharing your grandson's experiences and pictures.
At 10 to 20 yards nothing can be more deadly than a buck shot, a win win situation for your 10 year old!

Best regards,
Ajay

Beautiful, great to hear a story like that. My son was 2 in July and we're just about to head out bird hunting.

Keep up the good work with the young ones,Hunt with them and you probably won't have to hunt for them later.

I love a great hunting story. Your story has all the things that makes it great. Congratulations to all involved in the first deer kill. You have had a hand in setting your grandson on a great pathway. You are blessed as you say and I am glad to say you understand where those blessings come from.

That's a heck of a buck. Pretty hard to argue with any 10 buckshot that go solidly into the boiler room no matter what size they are. They all give about the same wound tunnel damage to green ribs and lungs. Congrats on for the new hunter.

Fast forward 2 yrs. My now 12 year old grandson killed a little yearling this afternoon. Gosh but time is flying. Tyler hasn't grown much but he can handle that 20. Quite the wing shot already. Ok, enough bragging but most of you know how it is. Looked like 6 pellets in top of lung and back, 15 yds, #3 buck I loaded him 2 yrs ago. Now I see that I can't load video, sorry.

Another good job and Bravo. Ut Oh, you got a grandson that likes to hunt. Well that should keep this thread going for a long time.
