I am looking into a dedicated 22 cal CB shooter and am not sure which to look at, I like the 222 neck but I like the 221's small powder consumption and the fact that it shares common powders with my 7.62x40 and 454.

Now I have thought of the CZ 527 in 221 FB and having the neck reamed out to a 222 neck. It would look like a mini 30 XCB, since I would buy 223 brass the longer neck wouldnt matter. So what yall think?

What are the twist rates on those? I would expect the 222 to have a slow twist, but not sure about the 221 FB

The 221 FB is 1-12" and the 222 is the same or 1-14" both are great for CB's

I would say do whichever you can find more brass for. I shoot a lot of cast .223 and while the longer neck of 222 is nice, it is not essential.

The .222 will be easier, but the idea of the long necked .221 sounds like a real treat!

I have a 527 in .221
Great little rifle with an awesome set trigger.
Tack driver with J words. Have yet to try cast pills in it.

I'll admit I am partial to the 221. Have you shot the CZ as-is? 18gr WC844 (H335) and a NOE's RCBS 22-055 stay on the bottom of a RedBull can at 140Yds (odd range I know) with once-fired Rem 221 brass in a Cooper. I guess I was too ignorant to pay attention to the neck length, I just loaded and shot... then smiled.

If you need some virgin 221 brass, let me know.

If you will be making all of your brass from 223, the triple deuce would be easier. I have a 222 RCBS competition die set that is getting dusty. The Fireball is too much fun and the 22-250 takes care of the long range work. Never got the round-tuit for anything in between.

I have yet to buy one, I was just throwing around the idea of a small bolt gun. I am leaning on the 221 just because it is more efficient for what I want to do. The long neck would allow the heavier bullets to be seated deep but not intrude on powder space.

Get the 222 Rem with the 14" twist. It will be much better for cast bullets of 35 - 60 gr from 22 pellet velocities to 2600+ fps.

The Deuce has the longer neck while the Fireball neck is slightly longer than the .223. Having cast/loaded for all three, the Deuce wins hands down as easiest to load for and accuracy with just about any safe load you might come up with. I agree with Larry wholeheartedly.

Which of the one is brass easiest to find? Personally I would go .222 Rem on availability.

I would make either brass from 223 brass, which is why I was asking about the 221 FB long neck.

Long necks are for long boolits placed into the neck so chambering can be with ZERO freebore. ... felix
