I have just been using Lee dippers since I have been reloading this time around. Living in an apartment, I really don't have the space to dedicate to reloading and guncleaning, like I did in my ex-wife's house! Deep Breathes..... Anyyways, I took Jr and Dennis's advice and set up in a tool box with a Lee hand press and truely have some great accurate ammo. But, I will be taking a corner of Lefty Jr's room and putting a bench in their this winter.

I said that to basicly say I do not have a scale, not even a Lee scale. I searched and lurched and decided on a 5-10 or 505 used. So I went to ebay, set myself to a good price, and didn't win **** for about three weeks. SOme of the older Ohaus was going for the same amount as a new RCBS! Well, I found about six 505 and four 5-10's for auction and I guess I lost count on what I bidded on because I won FOUR! So now I have two Ohaus 505's, one looks like a tan version of the newest RCBS and the other one is red and older but really cool and retro looking! I have a Redding #2 and a used RCBS 5-10 as well. All came from relaoders adn where nice and glad they went to someone that would use for that and assured me they were working order and just as good if not better thatn the newest versions made overseas. Plus One seller is sending me a weight set to check them! Thought that ws pretty cool.

So can't wait for them to get here! Going to have my LGS/ammo producer owner look them over for me and calibrate them and show me which ones are the best for my needs.

Oh, did I say I got them all for a combined prcie of $125 shipped! Ebay is weird, I have seen the same model in worste shape go for $50 or more before shipping. And I got these on the average for $25 each before shipping!

Life is good.....

Lefty,

I don't believe I have ever used a Redding scale, I may have at friends places, but I'm not sure. I have used both the 505 and 510 extensively, and believe you will like the micrometer adjustment of the 510 better than the moveable poise of the 505.

Regardless, it sounds like you got into these scales cheap enough to be able to use them and decide which one you want to keep, and which you want to pass on.

Ha,I did the same thing and got 3 scales and a Harvard trplie balance and weights.I got an education on scales the past few weeks.A rcbs 1010 will bring more than a identical ohaus 1010.Goes to show people arent doing they research. So look for ohaus if you want one to keep.I thought about buying every 1010 on ebay and fixing prices. The trouble is 1 or 2 turd abused scales will kill that idea.

You will be like the man with multiple time pieces - you won't be sure about the real time. Kidding ;-))

I have run into the evilbay thing myself and won on multiple offerings of linotype. Well, the shelf life is better than my life expectancy so all's good.

I go the Redding and the Ohaus 505 this weekend. Both calibrated and set up and was throwing very accurate loads. I can see the scales move with a drop of a couple of grains! I usually use a Lee dipper to get close then trickle to desired weight.

And not as slow as I would have thought. And impressed at the load data for the Lee dippers. Spot on!

Hopefully the Ohaus 5-10 and the older 5-0-5 will be here soon.

Ok, a quick update.....

I think the Redding #1 and #2 are great scales! I really liked them over the 5-0-5s or 5-0-2s.

5-0-5s were good too. But the Reddings just felt sturdier and seemed to hold zero longer.

I really liked the 5-10! My favorite!

So, after seeing what I paid for them all, I decided to put everything but the 5-10 back on Fleabay. Then I saw a RCSB 10-10 for 140 shipped! That did it! All went on Fleabay and now I have me a brand new 10-10! Even had enough left over to get a deluxe scale weight set to go with my standard set and allows me to fine tune the 1/10th grains and single grains more.

So for now on, I will just get the best I can afford. I was so focused on saving $25 on a middle of the road scale, that I spend more than what I would have paid for a top notched scale.

That is weird we both have different takes on the Redding#2 and RCBS 5-0-5. I've had both, and while I like the indicator tab on the Redding, that showed how many grains over or under you are. I really disliked the platform, as it felt unstable and tipsy front-to-back. Also on the Redding I didn't like the location of the leveling screw, and the indicator tabs were really hard to read in the notches--where the balance beam was completely black. I now have a RCBS 10-10, which is truelly worth the praise it has received.
