“Allright boys, let’s get at them beans.”

I overhear the cook telling his “secret” receipt - which I assumed was for the great beans he was serving with the BBQ. Here is what I heard, fixed, ate and get requests for often.

1. Large of can of Bush’s Baked Beans
2. Medium size bottle of Wishbone Italian salad dressing
3. One white or yellow onion
4. Two stalks of celery
5. 1 medium bell pepper
6. (Optional) a couple of Hatch chilies
7. Jalapeño sausage
8. Two grilled chicken breasts
9. Tabasco
10. A1 Sauce
11. Worcestershire
12. 1 tspThyme
13. 1 tsp Oregano
14. 1 tsp Celery Salt
15. 1 tsp Garlic powder
16. 3 tsp canola oil

Heat the oil in a large/deep skillet.
Dice onions, celery, bell pepper, chilies and stir into oil when hot. Sautee the veggies until onions are translucent.
Add beans and Italian dressing to the skillet – stir until well mixed.
Cut into bite size pieces and stir in the sausage and chicken.
Stir in 1 tsp Tabasco and remaining ingredients.
Cook over low heat, do not boil, while you fix a salad and warm some French bread.

Feel free to substitute any meat you like.

PS: A year later the cook told me I had heard his receipt for the beef marinade! So did he have beans in the marinade???? Whatever - that was 18 years ago and we still have this when the weather cools off.

When you say large can of beans, is that the 32 oz or larger? They have various sizes of Bush's Beans.

I like to use equal amounts of pork n beans and ranch style beans.

I'm not sure of the measurement - but is is the large can...looks like a two quart oil can.
The real key is the Italian salad dressing. Its full of spices and veggies and really kicks 'em up a notch.

Why are the Hatch's chiles optional?? They should be mandatory.

It's like around my house, a few "faint of heart," that cannot tolerate heat to any degree. Whine, whine, (want some cheese with that whine?) whine.
