I used to own one then I sold it before I started reloading; just too expensive to shoot factory rounds. Long story short, I have always missed that gun despite it being a non-justifiable expense as are most of my toys. So I bought a 700 gr NOE mold and cast 50 of em up (yep that's 5 lbs of lead). Then I loaded them using 22.3 grains of IMR 4759. They measure at 2.30" and look beautiful. Now that is a heavy bullet friends.
I believe these are more spiritually rewarding to reload than my 338 Lapua (another long gun I love to shoot). So today I finally bought my S&W 500 with the 8 3/8" barrel from Buds. I had considered the John Ross version but I couldn't do another $300 plus I like the extra weight of the longer barrel to diminish recoil from the bigger boolits. Yeah I may be compensating too :).
I feel good. It will be nice to get reacquainted with my old friends smith and wesson.
