I received this week my order from Amazon. It was for a Lyman M die in .30 long and .30 short.

The long die was touted as being for the 30-06-308.

The short die is described as being for 300 Sav, 30-30 and 762x39.

If the long one will work for the 7.62x51 why won't it work for the rimmed 7.62 case that is 51 mm long(30-30)?

I set it for expanding and slightly belling a .308 case. I tightened the lock ring and flaring tool down very tight with wrenches.

Then I switched shell holders and ran a 30-30 case through the long die. Perfect job of expanding the neck and slightly belling the mouth.

Why couldn't I figure this out from the description on Amazon?

Tomorrow, I am sending the short one back. Live and learn.

I have a .30 long, and use it for 30-30 with no issues. My neighbor has a .30 short, works too.

Set up in a Rockchucker with an RCBS 30-30 shellholder, the die produces immaculate expansion and belling of a 30-30 case with 6 threads of the dies body above the lock ring and one thread of the expander plug above it's lock ring.

Amazon is processing a return for the short one.
