Yesterday, I discovered I had an unopened pound of SR 4759. I looked it up and found it could be used for reduced loads in the 223. I ran a test to see just how low I could load it. I located the charge with a 1/2" X 1" strip of 3/8" loft quilting dacron and lit it with small magnum rifle primers.

Initial results indicate 6 grs. is about as low as I could go and still expect any kind of accuracy. At 5 grs., the velocity dropped off quickly. I'll run two tests with this powder under the Lyman 225415 and the NOE 225 60 RN.

One thing I found with light loads using SR4759 is that you start to get a lot of unburned powder as you get lighter. It needs some pressure to burn right.

You are correct, Sir. The manuals mention this powder is best ignited with magnum primers, which I did use. However, I did have trace amounts of unburnt powder after each shot.
