Slugged at .3075 and .308(two different slugs, two different sets of calipers)

So, I loaded up 20 31141 with carnauba red and sized to .309".

I have no idea how it's going to perform, this is the first cast that will go through this rifle.

Each cb was weighed, to 180gr ± .5gr

Then loaded with 12gr of Unique, Alcan LRP, in HXP 70 brass.

So we'll see this weekend where it's hitting on the paper.

Mine performed admirably. The savage platform is an excellent one to begin with.
If you have it available, I would advise considering the use of Alliant 2400 powder as well. 20 grains of that paired with Lee's 170 FN boolit proved to be incredibly accurate.
Good luck, let us know how it performs.

I had a similar expirence w/ mine. Its a 65' w/ probably a special order 1-8.5 twist. It has an unusually long leade probably to accomadate the 250's of the day. My 1st slug in it showed 305x300 while the breach end would chamber a 312. I discovered later (after considerable hair pulling and lead scrubbing) that the middle 8'' or so of the bbl was more like 310 x301 w/308x300 out to about 3'' in front of the chamber aggrevated by the roll marks on the outside making a speed bump on the inside. It shoots clean now but that 1st yr nearly cost me my sanity. I finally read and re-read the stickies and a dozen or so other threads reguarding lapping and fire lapping. It saved my sanity on that rifle and probably another I started just recently. Don't sweat shooting some that are a little big either. That was how I found the fat place in the middle of the bbl, that and waaayyy to much lube.

Good shooting ;)
