I received a bag of cast 38's in a trade and I need to further identify such. It (as cast/sized) .358 with a average weight of 162gr. I'm thinking it's close to the Lyman 358431, but not sure. The added picture makes the boolit appear as a hollow point but it isn't. Now, if it is indeed the 358431, where the dickens can I find a load for it? I want to use it in my Rossi 92 357. Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I have looked through the Lyman Pistol and Revolver Reloading Handbook and I didn't find it there. Nothing generic in Lee's Modern Reloading Second Edition either. These are well cast and I would like to be able to use them. They are approx. 18mm in length/height.

I'd just start with the starting load for a 158gr lead bullet- 162 and 158 are pretty close. You might load up a dummy load or three to check feeding. My favorite plinking load for this weight range is 6.0 of Unique.

Thanks Loren, these boolits were cast well and it would be a sham to melt them down to my standard 158's. I'll try a load workup tomorrow with some various powders.

data for the 358477 would also work.
it's a 158ish gr swc very similar in appearance to the one shown.

Loaded a batch this morning using 5.0gr of Red Dot. I have a lot of Red, Green, and Blue Dot so I'm looking for applications for those. They shot good out of the Rossi 92 and I will test them for accuracy later today or tomorrow. Loaded them to the crimp groove and rolled a light crimp. Came out to be 1.6". They cycle fine and there isn't any marks made by the rifling.
