Well I want your guys opinions on if you think this is going to work and it's more of a gimmick then anything else but I like the idea.
Alright I've done some zinc/alum casting in 9mm and I can push a 50gr zinc bullet 1700fps with low pressure the problem is I don't have a fast enough powder for a 4.5in barrel. Tho it makes some good dents in 1/4 steel. Well yesterday me and the cousin were out shooting and his ak made a nice dent in the 1/2 steel plate that we had but the mosin went through it. Got me thinking about loading a Zinc alloy (probably zakam 2 so the addition of copper) for the mosin nagant. Want to see how much steel a light bullet with a hardness around 100 brinell going super fast will go through.
I want to hit 4000fps with it so I was thinking the 115gr lyman mold #311359. That should cast around 70gr zinc alloy and Quickload says I can hit just over 4000fps. Do you guys think this is doable? Any downside to doing this? I have a 91/30 so I would think the powder will all be burnt before the bullet reaches the end.
