View Full Version : I miss the Mach 2.......

I was going through my ammo box of mixed rimfire and looking at how many 22 shorts I had and if I was willing to sell a box to a coworker. I found four boxes of Mach 2 ammo. Leftovers from when I had a NEF Sportster and a Single Six in it. THe NEF was ok, but the Single Six was the most accurate Ruger rimfire I ever shot. I sold the NEF and lost the SS while going through my divorce, along with a third of my retirement and most of my respect for woman!
WHile out and about today, I was looking for Mach 2 ammo and if there was any used rifles or even a Ruger in that caliber. I got too long blank stares at Wally World and Rural King. I did get a very helpful young man that informed me that that sporting goods store didn't have obsolete ammo. Sorry, I didn't think I was asking for 44 American!
So, was I the only one that liked the round?

I liked it way better than 17 hmr

I spent a while trying to convert a jennings pocket pistol to mach 2 a few years back

Best squirrel round I have ever used.
I have two rifles a Ruger 77/22 converted over to 17Hm2 with a Green Mountain barrel and a rifle barrel for my contender rifle and a 10" MGM contender pistol barrel.
Stocked up on ammo when it first came out, so I have enough to carry me through a life time of squirrel hunting fun.

All rim fire ammo is hard to come by these days. Way it looks all of it may as well be obsolete, not much to be found.

My buddy has a 10/17 Mach 2 and loves it. It's his jackrabbit rig.
Ammo is still available around here I think. Maybe a little on the high side for price though.

I really like the 17 Mach 2. A few years ago I stocked up on ammo at $1.99 a box. I still have 8K plus left (none for sale).

Generally you can find rifles here.

For ammo my go to place is http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/department.asp?dept=AMMUNITION&dept2=RIMFIRE&dept3=17+CAL
But they are currently out of stock.

Current online prices are nuts!!!!!

Have a sako quad with 4 barrels M2 is my pick as a hunting round, same trajectory as the quicker 22mag loads, accuracy as good as anything less than a target rifle, perfect for rabbit sized game and almost half the cost of HMR ammo.
Whats not to like.

I have a Ruger 77/17, Walnut, 20" Barrel in that caliber. I take it out an shoot Jackrabbits now and then. It is a sweet shooting rifle for sure. I have about 2000 rds.

Larger varmints can also be taken.

I put a Green Mountain 20" barrel on my 77/22 and love it for Squirrel hunting.
